well.. i have been working in this company for more than a year now and i haven't received a raise yet.. i was wondering how i should approach my boss about it, what with all the recession and all sweeping through.. and recently i have been under some serious fire... my boss has got some bad temperament these days so i am not sure about my course of action.. i thought i would ask him just casually or pass it as a joke while recess or something but i need some confirmation on that.
... any suggestions..?

If your boss is under a lot of stress right now then it's not the time to talk about a raise. Your boss has to answer to someone and a raise might not be in the budget. If you're determined to bring it up I wouldn't joke around about it. I would ask him if you're going to have a yearly review now that you've been there for over a year. If your boss says no then you could bring up some of the important contributions that you've brought to the company and ask him if it will be possible for him to give you a raise in pay. You always build yourself up before you ask for something but don't be surprised if there is no raise right now.

You could just ask him for a raise. Tell him everything you contribute to the company and what ideas you many have on different projects that are in progress right now.

i think you should tell him your idea, and let him know what you want. in fact , you should let him know what you do for the company, and what you will do for the company, you need he understand. if he think your are a good one , he will give you a good package

The biggest problem and worst thing anyone can do is trying to make it sound like you're grubbing for money. Most people especally now are glad they even have jobs to complain about. If you seriously think you're past due for a raise, ask for it... but not without backing up your case.
Ask other co-workers if they've recived a pay incress. Find out how long they had been working before they were elegable. Some places make you wait a year before you'll recieve any type of raise. So check your compny policy. You should've recieved a copy upon your hire. If you did not, then you have a right as an employee to see a copy. Don't simply go by word of mouth. That can be the worst mistake anyone can make. You need to see it in black and white... because believe it or not people will try to use anything espically employers to keep from spending money. No one wants to spend it, yet everyone needs more.
Make a solid case. Know your rights. When approaching the situation speak professionally. Have copies of documents. signed afidavids from co-worker Be prepared to fight back if you recieve a 'no'. If they can't give you an answer that is acceptable legelly don't be afraid to casually mention you'll take them to court.
And, be prepared to fallow through s hould the need arise. Most employers will agree to settle out of court. But, they'll try to bulshit you to avoigd paying. So get your facts streight.
Good luck.

Hello Ralphido. I would just walk up to your boss and ask if he/she thought you deserved a raise. And if not what kinds of improvements that you could do to make you worthy of a raise. I would ask him/her to tell you what you could do to make the business a better place of business. I wouldn't do it as a joke I would be serious about this. Some people don't take raises lightly. Good luck I hope you get the raise you deserve. Have a great day!
