I don't see any problem with your brother to be a waiter. Why did your parents do not agree with it? Its still a job after all.

Some parents would not want to have their children work as one. But why does your brother work then? Does he love his job?

For me, it's a job, maybe it's not as good as doctor or lawer, but it's legal and your brother, like the others, don't have to be ashamed when earning for his life from it. It's impossible to ask everybody to study upto a high level then doing an intellectual job. In any society, manual work is always a must-have.

i look at it this way: at least he has a job, which are hard to find nowadays, putting up with some nasty people ,working for tips, i have to say it's better than sitting home watching t.v. or playing games on t.v. or p.c., i think he's doing what more people should get up and find a job no matter what it is, i applaud him.

I worked as a waitress before, and as a banquet server. There's nothing wrong with that, money is money and he could be employed in worse or more dangerous professions. I suppose there is somewhat of a dishonor if your family has a history of more well to do jobs, but either way, I would say pride is a tricky thing, and that no matter what one should always be proud of their families achievements!

Waiters play a very important role in society. Do your parents ever go out to a restaruant to eat? If so, then they should know that somebody has to serve the food. Good waiters at well established facilities can make more on a shift than most people do working some factory or desk jobs.
