What is the meaning of website traffic

Hey friends, Please tell me what is the meaning of website traffic. How it is calculated? If a webpage get refresh after every 1 or 5 minute then website traffic will be high or not? If a webpage have one user for 2 hours then traffic will high of website or not? If a webpage have some users and that page get refresh after every 5 minute then website traffic will high??? Or if users will keep open that webpage for 2 hours then traffic will high?? please tell me and help me how can i increase a traffic of my website that any company will show his advertisement at my website. Thanks I need your help.
