ok so my friend asked me about three weeks ago to watch her cat wile she was moving because she didn't want to leave her alone too long in either house. well she offered to pay me for watching her for two weeks tops and as i said above its been three now i have 9 cats already and really cant have a tenth at the moment especially because shes not fixed and i have three unfixed boys in the house at the moment i cant afford to get fixed myself but don't pose any problem because all the other cats are boys or fixed or both and shes in heat and has to be locked in the bathroom to keep her away from the boys and visa versa but she never shuts up which is keeping me and my parents awake at night and driving us nuts during the day. so she gave me all the money she had had in her pocket when she dropped her off which was 7 bucks which if shed come back on time i wouldn't have a problem with but she still hasn't and every time i call her or she calls me she skates around the subject of when shes gonna come get her. so here i am going slightly insane and shes just out having fun doing whatever i know this because i know her and that she is and shes supposed to have a big savings account shes living off of for the moment but is acting like its empty and she cant get the money to get her cat fixed and also is acting like shes leaving her here as if i have any to care for her. i'm really quite mad about this but i don't really want to have to put her in a shelter where she might get killed or have my friend show up to collect her the day after i do it. what do you think i should do? have you ever had a situation like this? sorry if that was a bit disorganized my mind is permanently like that.

It almost sounds like to me she had no intention of bringing her cat with her to her new place. I guess she figured that you have 9 cats what difference will it make if you have one more mouth to feed.
I think you should call her one more time and tell her she has a few more days to pick up the cat or you will be making other arrangements for the cat. I know you do not want to put the cat in the shelter, but do you have another friend or family member who might be able to take the cat.

yea i never know with her what shes thinkin shes been my friend since we were little but shes changed so much that the friendship seems to becoming a burden which is never good. i gave her a week and if she doesnt come i would try to find her a home myself rather than putting her straight in a shelter there is also a no kill shelter near by which i would try before the spca but last i heard they were allready full. thanks and have a great day :)

I hope you can find a good home. In my area there is a place called four paws where one can adopt or drop off cats. My husband and I have adopted 2 cats through this organization. We paid 35.00, but they get the cats fixed for you. I also send pictures of the cats so they can see how happy they are. Our cat Smyles was so well known there (he has a pleasant personality)they always ask how he is doing. Best of luck to you.

Check your local humane societies and the animal regulation (pound). They often have discounts for spaying and neutering. If you can manage to pull it off, explain that it was a stray that you took in and are willing to give it a home, but can't afford to get her spayed. Sometimes they will spay or neuter the cat for free. Also, you could join Wish Upon A Hero, and post your wish for assistance in getting the cat spayed.
I hate to be the barer of bad news, but females will be in heat, go out of heat for what seems like three seconds, and go into heat again---and the little lady you're baby sitting is in HEAT! The female will "call" until some male gets her pregnant. Then woopee, kittens. As soon as the kittens are weaned the female goes into heat again.
I get the feeling that your friend is hoping that you will spay the cat for her, for free. I would get the cat spayed as soon as you can find some assistance, which will ease the pressure of her constant calling. Then inform your friend that the cat is being put up for adoption because of the fact that you have been taking care of it for three weeks and obviously your friend doesn't give a darn about the cat-or you, for leaving the cat there for that amount of time. I have four cats and I wouldn't dream of leaving them with anyone for that amount of time. I had to take my cats to the vet, and I also had other appointments, so I left them with a friend for the enormous amount of time of 3 hours. I was worried about them the whole time.
Your friend is using you. Just as I have had happen, but your immediate concern is the welfare of the cat (which I applaud you for worrying about the cat and the fact that if you put her in the shelter she may be put to sleep) make some calls to various places and explain that the cat is either a stray or abandoned and that you are willing to adopt her but she is in heat but you cannot afford the cost of having her spayed. They should help. Then, if your friend comes around to reclaim her cat, tell her she can't have it until she pays the cost of spaying...which you can return to the agency that helped you out or use the money to get your three boys fixed yourself.

We had someone do this to us as well except they wanted us to look after their dog that was a puppy,so i did and they said they would be back to collect it in the new year,as they were going away fot the Christmas period. We also took it in as they had said it would be only for about two weeks. We also had three dogs of our own and we had to keep it away from our dogs as they did not like it.Two months later and then we told him he either comes to get it or we will find it a new home as none of our dogs liked it and neither did our six cats. With that the man sais to find it a home,so we did as we had no choice as it was not fair on the dog or on our animals. If i was you i would tell your friend the same as maybe she do not want the cat anymore.A cat would have been easier for me rather than a dog and i would of had it spayed no matter what she said.Just tell her as you could be like this for ever waiting for her to come and get it and it is not fair on you or the cat to be in this mess because of your friend.

i can see how a dog would be much harder and i agree it isnt fair to any of the animals involved. i did tell her she had a week and she wants her but where shes living has a problem with her keeping her cat but she says that shes trying to convince them to let her bring her home or have her mom take her. also i told her if she doesnt get her in the week im going to look for a new home for her anyway so either way problem is solved i hope. thanks so much :)

Give your friend the ultimatum to come get her cat or you will have to turn her over to the shelter. And set a time limit so that she knows exactly how much time she has to get over to your house and pick the cat up. If your original agreement was that you would keep the cat for 2 weeks and your friend has now pushed it to three then she is obviously disrespeting your friendship. I know that you don't want to turn it into the shelter where it may be euthanized but there are many no kill animal rescues that could probably help you out. But I have a feeling that if your friend truely loves her animal then she will be over to get her before you have to resort to such extreme steps.

A few years back I rented a bedroom in a house. I lived there about a year and a half. The owner, my landlord, took two separate vacations to Disney with his two kids. He asked me to take care of the cats - feed them, water and take care of "scooping" the kitty litter "clumps." I could not handle the clumps as I gagged. I went out and bought a huge bag of kitty litter and just dumped it every other day. He came home after a week and I told him I could not deal with the scooping as it made me sick. I took very good care of his two cats while he was away. I was paying $600 a month for a bedroom that was average size. He paid me with a small Disney coffee cup. I could not believe my eyes. I would have preferred he take $25 off my rent. Nope - a lousy and small coffee cup from Disney. Some people are so greedy and cheap!!!! I was stupid because I let him get away with it not one, but two times!!!!!!

in my experience landlords are buttholes and they live off of sucking people dry with minimum return effort. and yea i would have made sure to be either paid in advance or written up a contract for payment to avoid his sleazy payment ways. hope nothing like that happens to you again good luck :)
