Yes, I have one large juice jug that I use for my quarters, nickels and dimes and another smaller jar for my pennies. I love collecting change and watching it grow. My thing is saving. Not so much spending.

I have two places that I will dump my change and my purse is actually not one of them. In my purse I only keep a quarter because I'll need that quarter when I go to the grocery store so I can get a cart. If I pay with cash for something I will either put the change in my pocket and then empty it into a Tupperware container that I keep on my mantel if I am not going through a drive through, but if I am going through a drive through then I will drop the change into the center console of my car.

I have a habit of putting the loose change into a small container at the end of the day. Sometimes I just put them on the desk since Id be using them as exact jeep fare the next day. When I have a lot I put them on my piggy bank that is on my armoire desk. That way I keep my desk clean from coin clutter and my piggy bank is being "fed" for a few times in a week.^_^ This piggy bank also has an opening at the bottom so when I need exact change, I keep the bills and get out the change for the jeep fare. This also forces me to only have a small number of cash during the day, which is usually enough to cover a bit of snacks, transport fares, and a bit for unexpected expenses. With this I only spend the very minimum and the rest that is left inside my room would be for savings.

Sounds like a great idea as that way you will always be able to have the exact money that you need as well as you are never over ran with loads of change.I think that in the future i am going to try to keep the change down to a minimun as that way i will not have to keep picking it up off the units as well as off the floors.

I usually carry my change around with me in the big oversized, ugly purse I carry. When it begins to get too heavy I put the change in a huge coffee mug I got from my last job. It holds about 16 ounces so I am sure it holds alot of pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters. I sure get tired of counting pennies.

I try to keep the change out of my purse. I find nothing more aggravating than trying to reach change in the bottom of my purse. I put it in my grand daughter's money bank.

I have an old Fritos can and I put my extra change in there. At the end of the month I take the money and put it in the bank. I am trying to save at least $100.00 so I can open a savings account. I had a savings account when I was engaged so my finace (now husband) and I can put any extra money we had into the account to save for our wedding. I kind of miss having a savings account. I know it is important to have, but with the bad economy we had to close it out. I can't wait until my tax return comes so I can put a little into savings.

That sounds like a great idea.Like you are saying with the way things are at the moment it is very hard for any of us to save any money to put into a savings account.I do hope that you get the money you need to put away to start a savings off as like you say it always comes in handy to have the money put away for all the things that you need.

I am glad I can help. I know the bad economy has hit us badly. My husband went from working full-time to working part-time. His boss claims that the economy is doing bad and that his own financial situation at home is bad. I would have believed it until last night when my husband and I attended his son's wedding reception. Everyone at work was invited so we felt obligated to go. We did not even know his son and my husband can not stand his boss (he back stabbed my husband so often, promising him full-time, then says economy is bad then boss turns around and hires two new people full-time). It made us feel so awkward. The reception had to cost close to $30,000. If the family is poor how could they afford an expensive reception.

My husband and I put our pennies into a jar, and when the jar gets full we roll them. The rest of our coins we keep in our wallets, and spend when we find a place to spend them. if we are paying cash it is always a good idea to have a little change, but too many pennies will weigh down our wallets, so we roll them, and take them to the bank.

I was putting all my change into a drawer, but the children like to play with all the small change and i am the one then ending up collecting it all up off the floors out of every room so i am now trying to find a place to put it all,i may end up putting it up ontop of the kitchen unit as that way they can not reach it to get it all down to put it every where.

I put my coins in my jar and don't usually use them until I take a bus or when I buy some groceries with my wife.

I've got several coffee jars full of loose change that's accumulated over the last year or two. I've been meaning to take it down to the bank to go in the savings account for ages, it might as well be earning me a bit of interest. I'll get round to it soon, I'll ask for some money bags the next time I'm in the bank.

Sounds like a good idea as like you say it could be earning you a bit of money if it was in your bank rather than in your house.I think that there are alot of people that tends to save up change and then when they have got enough they take it to the bank.I am usually shocked as there is always more money than it looks when it is counted up.

I don't really put up a collection of my change as I have to use the early every morning for my bus fare and so I don't have any collection of it. I used to do it a lot when I was younger like collecting unique coins and stamps but recently don't get enough time now for that activity!!

dear jj,
i use to collect the loose change and then change it with paper money so that it is not heavy on my pocket and then spend it.
now i like to change that habit. i will collect the loose change, place it in a fish bowl and place it there every time i have a change. when the fish bowl gets full, i will count the money and deposit the same in a savings account for my granddaughter.

That sounds like a great idea as this way you can see how much money that you have saved up as well as do something good with it.I also hate having all that change as well to carry round with me as like you say there are always shops giving you change and it can get heavy. Also if there is anyone who needs change then they tend to come to see if i have any and that also helps them out as well.

I put my change in my Fritos can and then at the end of the month I deposit it into my checking account. I am hoping by the first of the year I will be able to start up a savings account. I am hoping to find a job where I can make a steady income. I will be starting college in January and am hoping that I will get enough financial aid money so I can save.

I put all my si;ver in a darke decorated vase and from the out side no one can tell there is money in it. The last time I emptied it there was $59.00 in it but that did take quite a long time to fill it up.

Grrl, you have started 25 discussions so far today? Truly I cannot deal with that many so I will try to just answer this one. I put all my change in the bank, as I do not carry a purse. The alternative would be a piggy bank, but that I would have to dust. The truth is, except for pennies I pick up from the sidewalk I do not get a lot of change due to the fact that I normally pay for things with plastic. "Have Archcard, Will Eat" could be my motto.

I used to work as a waitress and so had a ziploc bag of my money in it. Well my tip money that is. I am sure I looked quite odd to pull out a ziploc bag of money, but it was mostly one dollar bills and fives.

I drop my change in the bottom of my purse. Then, when I notice my back hurting when I carry my purse, I dump it & start rolling coins. One time when I did this, I rolled $110.00. What a pleasant SURPRISE!!! It came at a time I was wondering how I was going to eat. Needless to say, $110 will buy a lot of good food!!! Since then, I still drop my coins in my purse, but I'm sure to put it in my savings account when I roll it. Once in the savings account, I hesitate to take it out unless it's a dire emergency!!!
