The increasing threat from terror networks: Do you think you can wish them away or are they here to stay, like some of those incurable new diseases. In health we as a comity of nations work hard to eliminate say Small Pox say one day may be malaria, hepatitis... I mean there is hope because there seems to be some way of microbe control be they yeasts/fungi/bacteria/viruses/pure stray DNA floating around...
Is there a hope that terror will cease to be a way of getting across?

Terrorism cannot be eliminated my elminating terrorists. The root cause of terrorism is the ideology behind the extremism. I think there is a need to engage these societies in dialogue. More than anything the need for reform should be felt by these societies themselves. This approach can take a very long time. Unfortunately, this is the only viable and right way to deal with terrorism. Waging wars after wars will only further radicalise them,, defeating our pourpose.

True we cannot afford to keep waging war after endlessly. There is also sense in saying the one option left is to keep the communication channels open in that keep the terrorists engaged in a dialog. As an optionless people this might sound the only way to see if they are willing to change. What do you think of the KPS Gill's way of handling of the Khalistan Separatist Movement. But the same thing may not work in Kashmir, for Pakistan has fanned the Kashmiri Separatists into continuing the terorism. They have tried to enhance their credibility, by naming PoK as Azad Kashmir(!?!). Let's say Kashmir is given Independence.. do you think Pakistan will let them exist as an Independent State? I have my doubts.

The Khalistan movement ended for many reasons. One of the most important reasons was the people of punjab got assimilated with the rest of India. The movement lost popular support and lost fizz. KPS Gill did bring law and order in Punjab, but had a small group of seperatists still continued with some form of terrorist activity , we wouldn't have given KPS gill the credit of solving the Khalsitan problem.
Coming to Azad Kashmir, I am in position to comment. I think no Indian is in any position to omment. Our media does not report any news from POK/azad kashmir. Most Indian are not aware that they have a full fledged government replete with a foreign policy and all. Maybe some day it will get the status of a country, if it manages to get rid of Indian and Pakistani interference.

Will Pakistan let an independent kasmir be? I have doubts too. But here's something I dont doubt, India will never let kasmir go. India managed to keep kashmir when it was still teething. Today India is a successful nation, it has more power and will. What we can hope for is that the Indian government will improve the situation in Kashmir. Respect human rights, repealing 'Armed forces special protection rights' should be the first step in that direction.

I truly believe the fear engendered by terrorists' threats is a stronger terrorist than they are! People can be so cruel and hostile when afraid, they do horrible things. Nations crumble under such loads...

I do agree that one cannot let oneself to be paralysed by fear. Fear or no fear, the threat is real, and as this disease spreads almost no country is immune. This way of taking on governments and people is on the increase. My question is wheteher you see an end to it in foreseeable time or should it be treated as one more of those diseases we should learn to live with.
