I'm selling mom's chandelier on craigslist because she doesn't like it and has an eye on one that she does like and wants to get however, I'm not sure how much to ask for it so I put $75. or best offer. Do you think that's a good price? I hope so for I don't want to go too high or too low either. I looked just about everywhere on the world wide web and can't find it but I KNOW I've seen it somewhere before but now that I need to know how much it costs new so I can figure what price to sell it at. What do you guys think? Is it too high, too low or just right?

Honestly, that's a 1980's style fixture and I have seen them slammed on HGTV for being ugly. I don't know, I think that its a matter of taste. I don't much care for it myself, but there are some that hate my taste too... I think you should be willing to talk to the best offer and consider yourself lucky if you get $50, but there maybe someone who likes the style and will pay more.

I didn't realize it was dated! lol 80's eh? Seems like a long time ago and it is in a sense but gosh, I didn't think it looked that old. lol I think I'm going to lower the price because $50. is what I'm aiming for so maybe if I put it in for $65. would do the trick?

I remember telling my mom that it was a fad and she'd be better with a more classic looking fixture and she took my word - for once! also, she didn't like the way the style cast shadows under them (since reading newspapers at the table in the morning was the thing to do) but mom remodeled in the 80's and happily she said she didn't want that style in her house, and it held up over the years without looking dated (unlike what she moved into the house with!) I think lowering it is a good plan

Read the other responses for they're telling me I've got the right price for most would be higher than what I have it at which is $75. so maybe I'm on the middle ground? I'm only guessing since I can't find it in the stores online.

I think one good way you might find out a price for it is to go to ebay...I'm betting someone is selling chandelier's there and maybe there is one similar to the one you want to sell.

I looked in ebay and couldn't find it there either. I did find some similar ones but they were waaaay up there in price and I thought the store is insane for even considering such a price! lol I know there's no way I'll get anything near a hundered dollars out of this one whereas these that I saw were in the hundreds while some weren't even a hundred but were smaller. If I can get just $50. out of it, I'll be happy for that's how much the one mom wants costs.

Have you tried doing a search on it on e-bay to get an idea of what others are getting for it used? If I'm not sure how to price something, that's where I usually head to.

Well then, I say $75 sounds like a fair price. We had a couple very old stained-glass/leaded hanging lamps that someone threw out. I was thinking of using them in the kitchen but we never got around to rewiring them and putting them up. Well, I finally put them in a yard sale few months ago and the bigger one went for $5 while the smaller one went for $3. Found out later that brand new copy-cats cost around $20.

I've looked for hours and hours for this one and can't find it anywhere including ebay. I did find some similar ones, smaller and larger but they were in the hundreds of dollars except for the small ones which were under a hundred so it's going to be a hit or miss type of thing. If I can get $50. for it, I'll be happy because that's how much the one mom wants costs. But if I can make a few bucks more, the better for them because they have property taxes to pay this month on both properties. Hopefully the renters will buy the darned place and it'll be one heck of a monkey off of all our backs once and for all. God, I hate that damned house with such a passion and it still haunts me today because of it not selling like it should have. ARG!!

catsanddogs check on ebay too because they sell everything and you might find one similar and get an idea of the price when they are new. I think I have seen one similar somewhere but do not remember where. also try lampsrus.com as they sell all kinds of lamp and chandeliers so you might get an idea for a price there. if you have not already done so that is. good luck. God bless.

LOL I've looked for hours and hours for this one and can't find it anywhere. I did find some similar ones, smaller and larger but they were in the hundreds of dollars except for the small ones which were under a hundred so it's going to be a hit or miss type of thing. If I can get $50. for it, I'll be happy because that's how much the one mom wants costs. Maybe I should lower it to $65.? What do you think?

Hi Jo! I couldn't tell you how old it is since my parents bought it with it inside. I've always liked it but mom doesn't and calls it "that thing" which boggles my mind but, it's a case of to each his own thing. If I can get $50. off of it, mom will break even because that's how much the one she wants costs but if I can make a bit more for her, the better. Every little bit helps especially with property taxes being due again and they have two properties still. Hopefully early next year these people will buy the place and my parent will have that heavy monkey off of their backs. But for now, hubby and I will help them again to pay them.

Thanks Jo for your kind words!! I think she realizes it now especially when we were out to lunch last week and we got to talking about hubby's mouth and about moving to Arizona and she said which shocked me silly "Don't move while I'm still here" which really made me feel so good inside! Because she's said before in the heat of the moment, "Don't let us keep you two here, if you want to go, go!" which made us feel very unwanted, unloved and unappreciated. But I wasn't about to leave them here alone, especially not after mom having a stroke. I just hope this nice side of her stays around till her end days but I don't know. My wall is way up there and will be for a long long time till she's able to knock it down which I doubt she'll be able to because I need it to shield my feelings from her mean words should she change back to her hateful ways. She's done that a number of times before so I don't doubt it one bit she'll go back to that but time will tell. Thanks for telling me about Ryan! That's GREAT!! See? I told you he'd be fine!!

You are really helpful to your mother well i'm not kind an expert seller, but i suggest you to sell with the based price when you first time buying it, i think you can estimate the price a little bit lower from it, since you said that you can't find the price from the internet

Thank you, I try to be. For now, I'm going to keep it at this price and see how it goes for a little while. If it doesn't sell then I'll lower it. I hope to get as much as I can for my parents have property taxes to pay this month so the more the better, IF I can get it.

I think this is a bad time of year to sell because everyone seems to gather at the malls and shops to buy new items, however I'd cheerefully pay your price if I wasn't living in this crappy appartment. I do believe it'll sell at this price I'm just thinking later after Christmas is done. It;s just not the wat it used to be, now a days everyone thinks brand new and some are even offended by second hand. NOT ME!!! As far as it being old style, I need to tell you I looked and went four months without a table after hubby and I split, but I found my chrome kitchen table for 50.00 and YES it is from the 50's, I love the old stuff, retro is for me. Stick to your price, I would.

You are so right about that, everybody wants new this new that. Why not go for second hand items and give them new life? I'm like you, I don't turn my nose to second hand things. In fact, I grew up on second hand clothes from my older cousin so no, I'm not above that. My grandmother bought me a second hand table and matching chairs, four of them for $50. back in '86 and I loved it! It was really pretty but my ex took it and sold it and everything we had in our place for a measly one hundred dollars!! I liked to have choked him for that!! I'd have given him more than that but dumbazz didn't put it back on the truck and tell that woman where she could go. Dumb dumb dumb!! I do wish I still had that table and chairs set for it was black wrought iron with a white table top. It was so gorgeous! Oh well, such is life I guess.

Do you know how much it cost brand new? Because if you're listing it for that then I'd say it's too much...unless it is an antique, of course. I wouldn't know how much to charge. I'm lousy at those sort of things. LOL I helped my mom sell a mini fridge once. Though she and my step father named the price. I just listed it on craigslist for them as they don't have a computer. Happy mylotting!

I looked for hours and hours on the internet to see how much it costs brand new but couldn't find it but found similar ones and the small ones are less than a hundred and the others were over a hundred. In fact, some were over two hundred so I hope I put a decent price on this one. We'll see how it goes....

Hey Mary Beth, It's a nice looking lamp but I wouldn't be able to begin to guess what to ask for it. I do think it is without a doubt worth at least $50.00. I wouldn't hesitate to ask $75.00 to start off. Leenie

The price you set depends on the cost price and depreciation, you mum should be able to tell you how much he bought it and the current market value, with this you would be able to set a good price for it

That's just it, she didn't buy it, it came with the house her and dad bought 2 years ago so she hasn't a clue to the cost of it. I've found a round about price so hopefully the price I have it set at will be the selling price however, if I get $50. then she'll break even because that's how much the one she wants costs. We shall see.

well that looks like an okay looking chandelier so maybe you should raise the price by around 10-20 dollars because that is the price I think it deserves. Also like all chandeliers the design a craftmen ship alos counts greatly.

I love it myself but mom doesn't. She calls it "that thing" and I can't figure out why for it's right pretty. It's hard to clean, because it has to be done with the lights off so it doesn't heat up the glass plates and smear so it's hard to tell where it needs cleaning 'again' till I turn the lights on again. I think the price is the middle ground because some are telling me to lower it and some are telling me to go higher. If I make $50. off of it then mom will break even for the one she wants costs $50. but I'd like to make a bit more for her if I can.

That looks like a very fine chandelier to me. And I hope you have placed it right for 75. To sell it right you have to find the person to sell it at right. Online selling is good just try your locals also. Sometimes you find better deals there.

I moved here just three years ago so I don't know very many people. Hubby was in the army for 27 years so we traveled a lot. I was with him for the last 15 of those 27 years so moving around so much we don't know very many people where we live now. Hubby is retired now but still, it takes time to get to know everybody so right now the internet is what I'll have to use.
