I would like to know who your oldest and youngest friends are, and what attracts you to them. I also am interested in what you look for in friends. I am 53, my husband is almost 62. We have friends that we enjoy who are in their 80's. They have had interesting lives. Unfortunately people who are much older than that who have been our friends tend to die. My youngest friend that I spend time with is my son's step son, he is six, almost seven. He needs me, likes to go to the library with me, and gives great, enthusiastic hugs. He gets unconditional love from me. I will go to the zoo with anyone, young or old for fun, and I consider my brother and sister-in-law (49 and 44) to be good friends too.How about your friends?

Yes, even family, or co workers can be our friends. Thanks for responding.

I am 49 and have friends who are half my age. My best friend was 65 years old. I enjoyed our conversations. We could talk for hours. Unfortunately she passed away 2 years ago. I love a person who can carry on a conversation and not get bored talking to them. Someone who will listen to you and advise you whether you like the advise or not.

Thanks for the response. Do you ever feel like you get too busy for your friends, and then really miss them? I do.I am sorry your friend passed on. I like to think that my adult children are also my friends.

I will be 49 in Feb. and to tell you the truth, I haven't had many friends, true friends in my life.
The very first friend that I can remember was when I was in grade school. She was a tall African American girl, named, Sheila. We were so tight. We went and did everything together. We got picked on because we hung out together; because of our race(s). I didn't then and still don't care what the color of someone's skin is. There are good and bad people in any race.
We had to move away and I forgot what her last name was; I wish there was a way I could find her to tell her that I still consider her my best friend after all these years. We lived in Portland, Ore. at the time; I think I was around 12.
We both lived in the Portland Housing District; being very poor.
I also have a good friend who's in her late twenties, from Canada; we chat online. But she is so ill, doctors can't figure out what's wrong with her; trying everything. I pray she doesn't leave this world before I have a chance to meet her face to face.
