My Christmas Tree

Okay, so I have said I don't put up trees, but I just couldn't pass this one up. I've set it up in my craft space, in one of only 3 cat free zones in the house and the only one I am in regularly so I can enjoy it! Yes, the area is messy so I tried to "clip" most of the mess out. I can tell you now, its REALLY hard to take a GOOD picture of a BLACK tree! The roomie was saying she missed the smell of the real tree warmed by the lights, but if I had a real tree in the house, I couldn't live in the HOUSE! So, the tree is black. The lights are red. I have a few red ornaments on it, some red ribbon and some of my red or black or red and black necklaces on it! I'm really not much of a fan of "Xmas" don't expect gifts under this tree - I'll be lucky if I can keep the cats away from it - Rygel was moaning outside the door that he wanted to play with it! HA! Took maybe an hour to set it up, because I first had to dig out a spot near a plug for it to be plugged into! Have you set up your tree? Is it a funny color too?

[b]RIYASAM--When I lose one of a pair of dangle-y earrings, I find the remaining one looks pretty as a tree decoration. I even have one earring that looks like a tiny, sparkling blue, white & silver Christmas wreath. It makes a darling Christmas ornament! Maggiepie STALKERS WILL BE EATEN BY AN ATTACK CAT!___^..^

[b]You should know--you bought it for me--AND decorated it! The tree is green, but it might as well be black, since you blanketed it with poinsettias, which--with the lights shining through their gauzy brachia--makes the entire tree look fairy pink! Don't get me wrong, I love it, but...a pink tree? I have a query re your tree, though. I realize Austin has a plethora of specialty shops that cater to burnt-out hippies, Wiccans & other colorful "fringe" populations, but what particular bastion of bizarreness carries black Christmas trees?? Or, did the folks who live near UT campus who hand paint their neighborhood's incredible "Christmas" display (remember the "Santa" made from an anatomy class' skeleton? Or the decorated Harley hog?) hold a garage sale? I'm just sayin'... Maggiepie STALKERS WILL BE EATEN BY AN ATTACK CAT!___^..^

[b] Kidding, right? Really. WALMART?? Ahhh...OOOoookay, I think I get it. Walmart does try to cater to the local clientele, so, obviously, they did surveys to determine who'd frequent their stores in our Bizarro Burg, & stocked things accordingly! Once again, weirdness wins in Austin-tatious! Maggiepie STALKERS WILL BE EATEN BY AN ATTACK CAT!___^..^

I always had live trees until my youngest son was diagnosed with many allergies, evergreen trees included. So, I went out and bought a nice fake tree, 6 1/2 feet tall. It looked real, as long as you didn't get too close. LOL Oh, it was green. After my son was finished with his five years of allergy shots and was actually healthier than I am, I still used the fake tree because, by that time, I couldn't afford to buy a real tree every year. For the past five years, though, we've had a real tree. There really is nothing like the smell of pine in the house at Christmastime. There are fake pine scents in cans but they don't smell like the real thing. I've seen all colors of fake trees. To each his (or her) own, I say. It's not the tree we're celebrating on Christmas day so it doesn't matter what color tree you have or even whether or not you have a tree at all. The spirit of Christmas is what is important, not the decorations. Still, I like having a real tree each year. Apparently, I'm slightly allergic to them myself because I'll start coughing if I sit near the tree for any length of time. I've learned to avoid that by sitting away from it. It works! Last year, my husband lost his job two weeks before Christmas. We were definitely not in the mood to celebrate anything and couldn't afford to spend money on a tree so we didn't get one. But, that depressed me even more so I pulled out a fiber-optic tree that I inherited from my mother and put it up. It was only about two feet tall but it did cheer me up some. This year is better so we'll be buying a real tree. I hope to get it within the next 2 weeks. I don't like putting the tree up until the week before Christmas, though, because they dry out so fast, no matter how much you water them. I use one of those huge plastic bags underneath it to catch most of the fallen needles and to pull up over the tree when it's time to take it outside and that does help quite a lot! Once you get your problem fixed and can post the picture of your tree, I'd LOVE to see it!

yeah, my parents got a fake one in 1963 because one of their children was sick every Christmas, and it wasn't my sister who was the one we knew was allergic to stuff - it was me - and understand, we didn't know the full extent of my allergies until I was an adult!

You know, there are probably lots of kids out there suffering with allergies but their pediatricians don't think to test them. My son had a runny nose almost constantly for years. I talked with his doctor about it and she just handed me a sample bottle of Dimetapp cold medicine! It wasn't until we got different health insurance and had to find a new pediatrician that we found out about my son's allergies. The very first time I took him to this new doctor, the doc looked at my son and said, "This boy has allergies. Let's get him tested." That was the best thing that could have happened to both of us because he tested positive for 13 different allergies. It was then that he began the allergy shots. I wasn't tested for allergies until I was an adult, either. I found out that I am also allergic to dust (and dusting but I knew that already). Since my son was also allergic to dust and dust mites, I learned to keep the dust under control and also to wear a dust mask when dusting.

The only tree at our house is about 3 feet tall, silver with large balls that change colors. It was a gift from a friend who is now deceased. It is the only Christmas decoration that my husband wants. I did an old fashioned green tree with ornaments collected during the years as long as there was a chance that one of the kids might come for Christmas but gave up last year and didn't put one up. The tree went in the garbage, but the ornaments are packed away in the storage shed. Maybe one day one of the grandchildren will call and announce that they will be here for Christmas. Then I'll have an excuse to buy a tree and dig out those ornaments. It won't be this year, though. The only one old enough to do that will still be in Marine boot camp. She doesn't graduate until Jan 8th.

that sounds cool to me - I don't have kids and because of that - no grand kids so the tree is all for me! I would've gotten the purple one, if it had been more purple and less lavender...

yeah already set up my christmas tree since november. im just so happy coz this is my first christmas with my baby boy so i bought my first christmas tree and decorated it with 4 different colors, blue, red, gold and silver..my sister and cousin help me in buying and choosing the decorations and of course to set it up. But I can't fully enjoy its beauty coz my son is always pulling the balls and even the flowers as long as he can reach so i have to put up the decorations and leave the lower part free. Can you imagine that? no decorations on the lower part of the tree? hahahaha.. advance merry christmas to all

Mine is a genuine fake tree and little. There are more ornaments on it than there is tree and it doesn't go up till a few days before the day. I get the grandkids to do it then all I have to do is put it all away again. Yours is ....erm Interesting?

Right..took you an hour to put it up but would only take the cats minutes to help take it down. lol Haven't put mine up yet. I'm holding out for a real tree this year in hopes of finding the one I want. If not, the 3' artificial will go up instead.

I must be really lucky then cause we've had over 20 cats throughout our 15 yrs. of marriage and not a one has ever gotten into the tree. We actually had a dog once that did that. Yeah..they would bat at the ornaments within their reach and the garland at times, but never actually climbed it. Think we had one cat way back named Taz that actually got high on the pine smell of real trees cause he would not stop rubbing on the lower needles. lol Would get all 'drunk' after doing it and not able to stand up. Too funny!

I'd give Rygel between 15 seconds and 10 minutes - depends on how quick he pulls it down - then I'd give the peeing cats 20 minutes to finish the job - that's why they aren't getting at it!

I have a Norfolk Pine that'll have to do right now. Every now and then it gives off a pine smell, too. But it's fairly scraggly (I rescued it from someone's garbage two summers ago) so it won't support too many ornaments. I do have a string of lights around the pot, though.

I have one of them that's still alive after over a year now! I've killed a couple but this one is doing great. I think the key is to NOT let them dry out. LOL I decorated a Norfolk Island Pine for Christmas before. I had it at work and put a few mini-ornaments on it. The people I worked with loved it!

um..no,i actually need to buy a new one. it's one of those 1970's multi part wire base ones, and it reeks of dust at this point.time to go. it also has a permanent bend in the trunk from 6 very bad kitties who all climbed at once.

Last year it was just me and my dog for Xmas so I had a small artificial tree. First time in forever that I've not had a real tree and like your roomie, I missed the smell...... But this year the hubs will be home so we will have a real tree. In fact, he was home this weekend for his days off and we bought a tree. It's still wrapped and frozen on the front porch and in a couple of weeks I'll bring it in the house, unwrap the webbing around it and pot it so it can relax and thaw out and get it decorated. I can hardly wait. I really missed not having one last year............ I like the sound of yours though Elic. A black tree! Too cool. And red is the 'in' color this year so you be stylin' now you be. lol

We usually put up a Christmas tree because our daughter loves it and for her it is a real event to decorate it with her Dad. I don’t know how we’ll go this year because our cats have never bothered with the tree being older felines and all, but this year we have a kitten who is only 2 and a half months old and very, very active so what do you think our chances of a small cat hanging off the Christmas tree? Yep, you guessed it...Very high!

put the tree up several days before decorating it so she has time to investigate it Don't hang tinsel, garland or other hanging sort of stuff on and this year use plastic balls, at least on the lower levels - that's what other cat owners suggest anyway

My Christmas tree is black. It's about two feet tall. It was a Halloween decoration, but I bought it for half off. It has twisted "branches". I couldn't afford a small pink one, so I made my own little unique tree. I got gold, silver, and red glitter glue and painted it all around the tree. It's still black, but it has a lot of sparkle! And I just hang my regular ornaments on it. It won't win any contests, but I'm proud of it.

I usually have my tree up by now but I've been so darned busy with so many lose ends that I'm trying to catch up. I even have pages of mylot discussions to respond to but haven't because I needed to catch up with my own and then I can do the others, I'm caught up with mine now and am doing as much as I can lol Sheesh, there's just not enough hours in a day.... or should I say, there's not enough energy for us to contain a day! lol I wonder what makes your cats bother your tree because my cats don't bother mine much. I did have one climb up it one time and that was it. We have an artificial tree too, wouldn't have any other kind, too dangerous for my comfort. Living through 5 fires in my life so far (knock on wood!) I don't take any chances these days.

oh, my cats will destroy ANYTHING and some will PEE on ANYTHING so anything I want to keep safe, I have to keep away from those cats... and Rygel doesn't WANT to destroy it, just "play" with it - but he wants to play with everything! 5 yrs old and still acts like a kitten - he plays with the younger cats and so does Nef, she was probably a busy girl too - we didn't get her until she was 4.

A black tree? I have never seen it sold at my place! Red and black are quite matching colors. I have put up the Christmas tree and like you, have to keep it in the corner near the plug and also to keep the cats away from passing by the area. However, it seems that the cats have noticed about it and now I may have to 're-do' the tree a few days before Christmas. Oh yup, the lights are supposed to be green, red, blue and yellow, but now after three years of using the same lights, they have changed into yellow and white!! Well, still perfect for the 'green' tree with gold and red ornaments!

Tony spent the night in here, but he's not much of a jumper - can't even get the goofball to jump in our laps! Frankie, on the other hand, we had to chase out of the dish cabinet! I only have most of the balls shoved in the tree and not hung on it, so they fall off with the least provocation!

Black and red- that sounds pretty cool. I always wanted to have one of those fake white trees, and but a bunch of pink, blue, purple and yellow ornaments on it. :D But my family has a normal-color fake tree that's been used year after year. It's not that big, and it's not that nice, but it serves the job, lol.
