on thanksgiving day, there were 2 power failures. the 2nd power failure made my computer mess up with an "unmountable boot volume" error. i finally fixed that by going into the Recover Console and repairing the system files. but now the sound doesnt work. i tried to check the sound system in the control panel. i even update the realtek driver that is on my computer. but i cant figure out why the sound isnt coming back on? i dont know what is turned off now or what is missing. any suggestions?

First thing to check is whether your device manager show that the sound driver is installed or not.
If it is not installed, then try re-updating your sound driver.
If it is installed, but still you are not able to get the sound, there are two possibilities.
1. problem with your speakers. Whatever type of speaker you have, during the power failure, something may have gone wrong in your speaker system.
2. The Sound controller chip in your pc has been roasted by excess power.
Kindly Check and get back.

Maybe the driver files of the sound driver got corrupted during those outages and the repairing of your system doesn't completely fixed. My suggestion is to re-install the sound driver of your PC not just update because update tends not to remove the bad driver files.
