Just got the word that I won my state's press association column writing awards. This year I actually swept the three categories, humor, editorial and Best of the Best. Last year in those three categories I took first, second and second.
What won it this year on the non-humor editorial side was a Mother's Day column I wrote about a friend who lost her mother.
Of course, all of that and $4.99 will get me a cup of Starbucks coffee, but it's the symbolic reward I guess. Plus it's a good resume stuffer.
The news and feature writing results come out tomorrow.
The awards banquet, like last year, is in March.
This is what you would call one of those bittersweet bits of news.
I won, but it's because someone lost their mother.
I'd throw it all away to change that.
Plus, I can't share it with anybody... no one around to share it with as I live somewhat of a solitary existence.
So I'm posting it here.

Congratulations! Wow, that's pretty cool. It's definitely a recognition of your writing ability and that has to feel good, I bet. I've always had a secret ambition to be a writer so I can imagine how it would make me feel if I won any kind of award for it.
I know what you mean about the solitary existence too. Living alone is nice but sometimes it's nice to have someone to share good things with. Glad you shared it with us here on MyLot. [;-)

Congratulations on achieving this honor and hope that many more Good things will come your way as well. I have never personally entered any contests like this as I am actually afraid too, but since I want to eventually become a Published writer maybe this is something I should consider doing in time as well.

Wow! That is excellent news. Congratulations.
Where was the mothers day story published? How many words in length was it?
What were the articles that won you humor and best of the best?
This is a great achievement and certainly you can use it in your resumes.
My daughter age 16, has been writing fiction stories that she gets publised online for about 2 years.

Congratulations My dear myLotter! You have a quite sad story in there. But I hope you'll still be able to enjoy the moment of winning. It is something that you will be able to treasure forever and it is the kind of treasure that nobody can take away from you. May GOD bless you more in your writing career!

Hearty congrats! It is not the amount that counts ; the thrill of having won an award cannot be quantified.I am very happy for you because you got the award. It is sad about the bit of news and I can also understand your feelings but you would have got the award anyway even if you had chosen some other theme.THis just happened. Don't worry. Why do you ssay there is no one to share with ?Don't you have any neighbours/friends/ relatives living closeby?Anyway, we , are here to share and my best wishes to you .

You Go Girl! Congrads. I think writing is one of the hardest things to do.
