Is it common for men to have a mistress in your city? country?

This is very common in big cities of China, by my observation. I remember that many people say that westerners are very open about men and women relationship. I am not sure whether this is true or not. Therefore, I am just curious and I hope to learn the fact from my fellows here cause you are from diverse cultures. In my surroundings, many married men, rich or not rich have a mistress or an intimate partner. More men prefer one night stand because there is no responsibility involved. No worry to be bothered, to be pestered, or have to buy gifts and jewels. A new trend is many unmarried young men are having mistress because they are not contented with a single girlfriend. I think this might be more opener than "westerners". For those who are married, I can understand a bit because they get tired of facing the same face for too many years. But for those unmarried, I don't see why.
