How many cars do you have in your home?

I am just wondering how many cars you have in your house. In the Philippines, most people have no cars, they just ride a public vehicle but the fare is too expensive. They are spending much same as like they have cars because gas is expensive now.In the US, most people have cars. Only very few have no car and most who have no cars are disabled, can not drive or they are sick and old. In America car is a necessity but in other countries, car is a luxury. How many cars you have in your home? Do you really need to have more than one? My hubby said, it is better to have more than one for emergency, like if the other quit, there is another one we can use. Do you have same idea?

We have just one van. We are only three in the family so I think we don't need more than one. But lately as my son learned driving, he is already contemplating to buy his own. Well, I don't know if I would like him to own a car. I hope he learns more from his Dad about safe driving before he owns one.

Well, I understand that my friend. Everybody wants to be safe on the road but you know what? you will not learn unless you will be on the road driving. That was my great fear before... I am so scared on the road but I will not over come it if I will not drive right where there are lots of traffic. And I learn how to be safe right on the road, so, your son needs a car so that he can drive and learn to be safe on the road. I am driving now.. thanks God I was able to overcome my fear.. BUT.. I have no license yet.. hahah mine is just a learner's permit and I have it for almost 2 years.. I am about to get my license this month but my car's engine broke just the other day.. It is always something.. Now I have another problem, how to have another one,,, Money is not easy here this time.. Well, maybe I have to borrow car so that I can continue my practice on the road.. hahaha...

That's a great idea my friend to let your son buy his car with his own money with that, he would treasure it and be careful in using it because it's his money. And for us, ladies in the Philippines? there is no challenge of driving in there because it is not a necessity but if you are here? you have no choice because you can not go anywhere if you will not drive. I'm sure you can drive to the highway if you would want to my friend, but it is not necessary because your hubby will do it for you to drive anywhere you go. My hubby can not do that because he has to work. I have to do it myself or wait for other people for a ride which is I do not like. Well, I know,, God will Provide.

Ahh! Thanks for that advice! Maybe I should let my son to learn really. But he has to buy the car through his own earnings. Anyway he is earning now. But with me I think, I can never learn driving just like you did. I know how to drive but only within the subdivision. Meanwhile I wish you can buy a new car soon!

Hi Bebs. I currently only have one. At one point I had 3. A pick-up truck for my husband, a sedan for me, and a motorcycle (my husband's baby LOL). Unfortunately the car was junk and my husband's little pick-up truck gave out at almost 300,000 miles. So we sold all three to get the one that we have now. Hopefully we'll get back to having two soon because with having a family of four 2 is definitely a necessity, especially with living out in the country where public transportation doesn't even run. Though if it did, we'd still need at least one because my husband needs a vehicle in the line of work that he's in. Happy mylotting!

hahaha!!! the same with us. My hubby has 2 cars that need to be worked on plus mine which had suddenly break down last week so, we have 3 junk cars in our drive way. 1 pick up, and 2 automobiles. We have one car that is working now, my hubby's expedition. We really need more than one so that I have one to use when I go to my part time job. It is really necessary because we are living in the country area.

Well we have 4 cars at our house, one is mine two are my husband's, and one is my mother in laws, which she isn't here right now, she lives in Africa, but when she comes home to visit she has a car to drive around. I think that's too many, but my husband doesn't want to get rid of his truck, he has two, one is a newer one and the other is an older truck which he uses to haul wood and stuff in, so its needed. Gas is expensive, and it always seems like one of them is out of gas.

Hello Bebs in our home we have only one. You're hubby is basically right. You can't say most of the year round your car is in good condition always. I am sure there would be a time there could be a problem. Like in our place, (Philippines) we have color coding everyday. If you have only one car how could you use it when every car has only one plate number endings. What if that day your car would be on color coded and you have very urgent or an emergency? what would you do? Well, borrow from our best friends, neighbors or maybe call a taxi.... Well, car is one of our life's luxuries. It is optional to those people like me if we don't have enough budget on that... Nice topic...cheers! Mobhomeir

ah? ok now I know where is that color coding cars,, I read it somewhere in the responses about the color coded car hahah and I did not know that it is in the Philippines, my home country.. I have no idea about that because I don't own a car when I was there. I don't even know how to drive a bicycle? haha but here I strive to learn because it is a necessity.

In my family we just have one car and that is all we need. I am a stay at home mom and my husband only works a few blocks away from the house so if for some reason I may need the car I will just take him to work and then pick him up or he will just walk when it is nice out. I know that there are families that may need more than one vehicle but to be frank if we had two one of them would just be sitting in the driveway all the time rusting away...besides we can barely keep up with the up keep off one vehicle let alone up keep and insurance on another....

Oh!! I can understand that too, if the work of your hubby doesn't need more of driving? it is just enough to have one.. my hubby's work is more of driving to different places so the car is easily worn out and we need a back up when the other one is out of order.

The family where I come from is not a rich one. We are an average family with average jobs doing our daily things. Over the years, my mom has brought in 2 cars, one 20 years old and the other 5 years old. My father has brong 3 cars from all his life, so he still has his first car and finally my grand father's car because he lives with me. So in total we have 6 cars, all genuinly old cars nothing really modern and none of them are sports cars. My sister is planning to buy a Fiat very soon, so the count will be 7.

Well, here in US it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor. Having a car here is not a trademark that a person is rich. They have cars because it is a necessity but in the country like where I come from? if a person has one car he already has money.

we have only one car since my hubby only can drive,it is a neccesity in many countries but rash driving often leads to accidents,so i prefer the public transport system which is very well developed in my place.

We don’t have a single car..isn’t it ironical considering the fact that the world’s cheapest car is coming out from the Tata stables here in india itself and its Mr. Tata’s dream that every Indian family should have their own car. His thoughts are noble and there are so many companies luring you with car loans but the honeymoon ends there! Oil or gas is just too expensive for the ordinary people to afford it so public transport is definitely cheaper.

I agree with that.. If there is a way to travel without having your own car, why buy one? I have no car in the Philippines and can not afford to have one but when I arrived here in US? It is a hard thing when you don't have one because there is no public transportation where I was.. then I can not go anywhere if I don't drive my own car.

I don't have a car of my own in my family, as I don't have enough for one yet. Quite a few of my colleagues come to school to work in their own cars. I don't think that I need to have one for myself. If I have enough for one, I will use it to work as a taxicab for making more money by renting it to someone who wants to have it.

Well, it is not necessary to have one if you don't need it. What I mean is if there is no way of riding to go anywhere like in the place where I am now? It is necessary to have one.

Oh? I would think, you can really afford to have more than one car and that you are not an ordinary Filipino Citizen... hahahaha.. What I mean is that, most average people in the Philippines can not afford to have one and I think you are more than average. Congratulations. In here? average, below average and above average all of them have cars. It just matter on the model and that identifies the trade mark of that person.

We have 4 cars in our driveway at the moment. Only 2 are in good running shape, and are registered. I own 2 and my Roommate owns 2. We do have a 3rd roommate who has no car. she only lives 5 blocks from her job so it has net been a necessity for her. Nut I really need a car to get me back and forth to work and the grocery store, for Vet emergencies if my dogs or cats get sick or injured, you can't take them on the bus... :) I would not be able to function with out a car- not for very long anyway!

Currently we have 3 cars at home. The reason for this is we have alot of adults int he house and each one has a specific location to go to. To make our lives easier we each have one to use and just go around others schedules of the car cannot be used for a specific day. Since there are alot of cars ont he streets nowadays the government came up with a plan to have certain days off for like cars with plate numbers ending on 1 as well as 2 and so on.

We have one car in my family and I think it is enough for now. I do not have car yet because I can`t drive. But I don`t need car. Maybe when I have kind and I when I have to drive them for school, I will buy one. In my country is normal one family to have one or two cars. Of course it`s depend of that how much money you have and do you really need car.

Well, in a country where there are lots of public transportation, it is not necessary to have a car.. but when you are in an area with no public transport you will really strive to buy a car even if money is scarce because you can not go anywhere without a car.

Oh!! traffic in India is terrible!! cars, motorcycles, animals, buses and cyclist are traveling on the same road? and there are also people walking? that is so scary to drive in an Indian road. I've seen it how your roads are. It is similar to the Philippines but here in US? the roads are not like that. I rarely see bicycles and motorcycles on the road and no body is walking. About your question of what car is suitable for your road? I don't really know.

scorpio car - more than one car
hi bebs, we have two cars in our house, in our city, everbody have minimum one car.. here these cars are very expensive. it makes trafic jam also, most of the people will park outside only.. i have seen in every house one car inside and one car is outside, so, the will be blocked due to this. sometimes very irritating about this. thankyou, have a good day.

Having one car is more than enough in India.I have a car as well as a motorcycle, and i rarely use my car :).ANyway cars wont be a luxury anymore,at least in india, because Tata nano is being launched, which costs barely 2500$.and many other indian automobile companies have started to make such low cost cars.So it will be the trend in developing countries.

I've got three cars, as my family is quite busy and we mostly go to different places I've got my own car, my dad has one, my mum has one and my sister can go with either of us as she usually goes with her BF. As for the gas issues, we use gas effeciently so it doesn't cost too much, and if we needed to use long distances, we'd just rent an NGV car which could save us thousand on petrol.

Oh? renting when you go long distance trip? My hubby don't want to use his car for long distance trip because of gas issues. But our small Chevrolet had helped us a lot because it saves too much gas when we used it for long distance travel. It is not comfortable because of the size but it can save us a lot of bucks for the gas. As to renting? I did not realize you can save a lot than using your own car.

Currently my name is on the title to 5 cars and have another in the driveway that belongs to my dad; but as soon as we get it running he will give it to us. I have a car, my husband has a truck, my stepson has a truck, my sister drives one of my cars and we have an extra. The truck that belongs to my dad will be driven by my other stepson when he gets his license. Do we actually need all these vehicles? Probably not but it is nice to have a choice of what you want to drive based on what you are doing. And yes Americans do own more cars than most because we do not have access to public transportation like some other countries.

Oh? really? that sounds good if you can select what car you are going to drive for the day. We have actually 4 but we registered only 2 because the other 2 needs work and we don't need more than two anyway. We just used the other one for emergency. That is really the main reason here in US specially when we are in the country area, we need to have our own car, no public vehicle is available but in big cities here, people can just go without cars but it is still convenient to have our own so that we can manage our own time not waiting for bus schedule, etc.

Yes, It is better to have more that one car for emergency. There are 22 members in my family. I don't have car yet but my family own 8 cars. If with car, I have to spending much on petrol and toll. That's why I don't want to have car now and car pool with other to go work.

That's what we always do also in the Philippines. We don;t need to buy a car because there are lots of public vehicles to ride if we need to go somewhere but here in US.. specially if you are living in the country area, there's no available public transport to use, and that we need to drive, so we must own a car.
