You have to be an engineer to answer this question. And the ease of making things, or what you call manufacturability. It is not about the pizza. It is about how to make pizza boxes the easiest. Because the box is just an added cost to the pizza, the box has to be cheap. And the easiest way to make a box from a piece of cardboard is to make it into a square. Plus a round box would take up more material.

I totally agree with you bounce58. It is much easier and cheaper to design and manufacture a square box. And if you have ever tried to roll a pie or pizza crust, a round shape is easier to achieve. Because when you start rolling a ball of dough, a round is more natural than a square. So in this case both pizza box manufacturer and pizza maker save time and money. A win/win.

Here in the US, I sometimes wonder, why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways? A famous American baseball player, Yogi Berra was once asked if he wanted his pizza cut into 6 slices or 8 slices. He said, "Cut it into 6 slices. I'm not that hungry."

I suppose it's because square boxes are easier to manufacture, but here in the UK I have had pizzas which have been in round boxes on a couple of occasions.

This a very interesting topic I think pizza comes on a square box because 1) It will be more easier for you to arrange or park things in squares than circles. 2)The second reason could be,if you open a round pizza in a round box the will be no way to take a spice of pizza but if its in a square box there will be a way of taking a piece. I hope this will help

I actually don't have any idea. But let me guess! So that it will be easy to wrap? Let me know if you have the answer

I think it's probably because square containers are just easier to make. When you think about it, making a round box out of cardboard involves a lot of folding/bending, while square ones involve much less.

Well that is a good question I never thought of that but now that you mentioned it why does it notr come in a round box?I was in the dollar store not too long ago and believe it or not I saw one piece of pizzain a box shaped just like a slice of pizza thinking this can't be any good if it came from the dollar store but actually it was great!
