I signed up to a site called "Snag a job" quite a few months back to help me look for a good job. I have submitted way too many applications, something like forty without any of the potential employers replying or even reviewing many of my submissions. The site alerts you via email when a company is hiring. You then go to the Snag a job website and fill out an application or whatever is necessary to apply for the job. I filled out one even for a local pet store that was 21 pages long. (Very ridiculously long in my opinion.)I have not been looking for a "career" as much as more of a job to help with some of the financial stress that my household has been under since my fiance was diagnosed with lung cancer this pass April. So I was wondering has anyone ever used one of theses sites? Do you find them helpful and what are some that actually work if any? I know the job market is stressed as it is but surely someone with a decent education and some college training can find "something". Thank you for all replies.

I have used Snag a job and found it less than helpful. If you want to get a job at a business near you - say lowes or mc donalds or something like that I would go to the business in person and request an application. I have used other sites as well. I go to indeed.com, the site pulls from all the big job posting site out there like careerbuilder, ladders and the like. Be warned though when you go to apply the site will like to back to careerbuilder or ladders to actually submit your resume. Like you I have been looking for work in a market that is flooded. Your best bet is to network with family and friends who may know someone that knows someone. Also I'm sorry to hear that your fiance has lung cancer. Not to sound cheese but sometime the nurses and staff there may know of places that are hiring. Remember everyone you met is a potential six degree away from a new position. Also, Don't let your finance forget to apply for financial help from the hositpal if not covered by insurance and sometime even when covered by insurance the hospital my have finance programs to help assist with medical costs. Never hurts to ask.

I know exactly how you feel I've been out of work for over a month and my experience is with these stupid temporary places! They are so bad you go in there and fill out all this paperwork then take all sorts of tests and before you even do that they say they do have openings but whrn they tell you to call them in the morning they really don't have sh-- OK Then they say the will put you on their available list. How do these people even stay in business? Why do they get paid for doing absolutely nothing this really irks me!I think I am just going to to start going in places and ask if they are hiring!I think these temp places are a waste of taxpayers money and They don't deserve to get paid for nothing!

I agree 100% Hello I need a job I don't have any money to pay someone for what I can do myself! That is just totally ridiculous!

I am also looking for casual employment.
I use four online job search sites. They are Australian, so wont be any good to you.
They are good, in that they have lots of jobs on offer. Like you, I have submitted my resume to a few of them. Only two bothered to reply that they had received it.
One job I applied for online with a book shop, had 8 pages of questions, many of which were not relevant to the job.
I have also made an appointment with DOME. This is an organisation that helps people over 40 find a job.
Hope you have more success. Good Luck.

Try Indeed dot com. This website pulls open jobs off of other sites like monster and career builder.

Hi celestos,
I work for SnagAJob.com, and I'm sorry to hear your job search has been so frustrating. Unfortunately, due to high unemployment there are six people competing for every one job out there -- which is probably why you haven't yet gotten any interviews.
Do you have any experience in specific industries -- like retail, customer service, restaurants? Make sure all your relevant experience is spelled out in your profile. Also, did you follow up your applications with a phone call a week or two later to the location where you applied? Sometimes this can make all the difference.
With persistence, people can find jobs even in today's tough market. Here are a few stories job seekers have sent us:

Good luck!

I signed up with Monster a couple years back and changed my info last year since I moved across the country. I never get anything suitable from them. Jobs dot com emails me some things but they are all in other cities. Simply Hired dot com sends my job alerts but they are always filled by the time I get them and call.

The company where I used to work for like for more than 4 years, I actually applied online thru a website that helps you to find a job. Untill now I am still able to use the same website to help me find a job instead of going thru the newspaper like olden times. Today, most of the people who look for a career enhancement or even just a typical day job goes thru online sites that gives you an edge in a particular position you are aiming for.
