I started reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold this week. I did it partly because I saw the previews for the the upcoming movie recently- which look totally stunning, the visual effects and colors really pop.
It's a very interesting book. I love how Susie (the main character) is in the "in-between" of heaven and life. There isn;t a dstinct story, it's just kind of going along the lives of the characters at the point I am in the book, but I'm sure the end will be somesort of resolution, like catching Susie's murderer.
Have you heard of this book, or the movie?

I really disliked the book, and I really disliked the ending. I feel as if it is a pointless story. Or not so much a pointless story, because I love the idea of what the author is writing about. But I think the book was poorly written. It sort of just drags on and on. There was too much detail on the things that didn't matter, and too little detail on the things that did not. I think someone else could have done a much better job at writing this book. Like Jodi Picoult, for example, even though that sort of story isn't something she would normally write about. I just love the way she writes and how her ideas come together.
I think The Lovely Bones is going to make a much better movie than it did book. It seems like something that I would maybe enjoy watching more than reading. Hopefully they made enough changes to it to make it more interesting and thrilling.

i read this novel last year. at first, i felt i was reading a thriller. but later on, i found it totally wrong. it's not about murdering. it's on the subtle interpersonal relationships, the family bond, how people adjust themselves to the past sorrow, forgiving and recovering with the memories cherished deeply inside. much more deeper than a mere murder. that's how i feel about it. and yes, the way to tell the story is very original and impressive.

Some commentaries on different excerpts from your discussion:
*Distinct Story: why does there need to be a distinct story? distinctness can often thwart, hamper a person. indistinctness is like life- no real meaning. just what it is.
*Totally Stunning: so the previews look beautiful. but are they as beautiful as the book, will the movie be as beautiful as the book? sometimes books are better.
*Interesting Book: interesting books are good. it is good to read an interesting book or else you will probably not finish it.
I haven't heard of the book.
