Music in the 20th century was REAL!

I was just watching MTV and saw a quick clip of Britney Spears, Mariah Carey etc. singing, and to be honest i was so shocked that almost anyone can sing a song and become famous these days, especially with all the sound editing etc. that enhances music today. Where-as in the 20th century all you had was a good genuine voice to be successful with, and it sounded great!

I know that too. We were watching a special on Elvis and I have cds and tapes of a lot of singers and then they were really good. The singers then took lessons, and they did not need microphones or sound effects to get across and it was real singing. Now except for a few, all you hear is noise.

Me I was thinking of all that rap music. Where they practically threatensing what is going on. Sorry that is the only way I could describe it. It certainly is not music, not in a long shot. At least back as far as the 80s people knew how to sing. Look I never had singing lessons and I can sing better then some of the new stars nowadays. Never heard Brittany sing. So thanks for warning me.

I couldn't agree more. Today's music is so manufactured and unoriginal...I can't tell you how many of today's songs borrow riffs from songs from the 80s or even earlier. To me, if you have to borrow riffs, that means that you have no real creativity in you or if you do, you're afraid to go out on a limb and actually put it out there for public consumption. Tons of classic bands became wildly popular because of their originality; they weren't afraid to take chances, and because of this, a lot of them are now in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. It's going to be interesting to see how many of today's bands end up there.
