I start this conversation with not many hopes of someone answering it because I believe that although Eliade was a great person and wrote exceptional literary works, not many know of them or have read them.
I personally love all his work. His fantastic stories were the ones that opened the fiction literary universe for me. And his novels about the period between the two world wars have a certain strenght and aura i've never found in any literary work before.
I was very surprised, while reading Anne Rices' Vampire Crhonicles to discover she actually read Eliade and appreciated his work.
Now, for my questions:
How many of you know that he is Romanian? Have you ever heard of him, or even read anything written by him? If so, what did you like/dislike in his texts? How did you discover him as an author?

Thank you so much for your answer , shibham! I didn't even dare to hope someone form India would respond to my discussion. You know, Eliade lived a few years in India and he learned a lot from there. Those years lived there marked his later works a lot!
Besides that, the novel "Maitreyi" is considered to be his best work. It tells about the love story between him and an indian girl, a love that ended up bad for the both of them.
The story is very touching and knowing it is real gives it even more stregth.
Also, Maitreyi Deva wrote her own version of there love story in the form of the novel "It does not die". I envy you a little because I'm sure your understanding of your own culture and customs could make the lecture of these two novels much more impressive than they ever could for me! For me they are exotique, for you they are very real.
I stringly advise you to read them if you can find them!
Here's a picture of the novel Maitreyi wrote :

I read Eliade,is one of my favorite writers!I discovered him in "Maitreyi" and right after,I read her version,"It does not die",which also impressed me!It is fascinating to read about a love story on display in two points of view so different!Eliade was a philosopher, and this apparent in his book!
One of his quotes about women:"she always invites us to see her as she wants"
He was a great teacher,he left us a great cultural legacy!Department of History of Religions of the Chicago University was founded by him and bears his name!

I'm from Romania and I can say that I found on Mircea Eliade, my mentor throughout the school, and even now I can not say it is not. I've read almost all the work, both belletristic, and specialty books and helped me understand more. Teenage guys really should read "Myopic Adolescent Novel. "
