I am a middle aged male with brittle and cracking toenails, looking for advice

I am in my 40's and have had brittle and cracking toenails for years, my fingernails are fine. I always keep the nails trimmed so they do not get long, but when I clip my toenails, they crack and split. Is there any solution I can buy say at Walmart that can put on them to make them stronger and healthier?
