Which one is a best buy, Nikon D3000 or Canon 500D

I am about to buy an entry level DLSR with HD but I am confused on what to choose. I am newbie when it comes to this things and need some help. Thanks.

500 D has the DIGIC 4 processor and full HD recording but not high-end documentary if yours is the best option, the 3000 is very good but I'll take the 500

Thank you for the advise, I also read some good feedback and reviews of 500D and I am still checking out what camera suits me.

Nikon D3000 is very easy to use but provides limited control over the camera... You could say D3000 is like a Point-and-Shoot camera in which you can change lens and a have little manual control... D3000 has a guide mode to help you take pictures.. Where as Canon 500D is a level above the D3000... You could also check out Nikon D5000 or Nikon D90... Between the two which you have suggested i would go for Canon 500D because you will outgrow D3000 in a few months...
