Obviously few students enjoy exams though they give students opportunities to show their competence and disciplines on them. So, let's suppose if you had the final word to decide whether or not to retain exams, what would be your decision? Will you free students from exams or not?

As a student, I don't like exams, they add stress to my hakunamatata life. But I prefer exams than defense. Defenses are the worse event in a student's life. Your sel-esteem will go beyond negative, and it seems all your hard work doesn't matter. That is how mean the panel members are.

i think exams are pointless since you just learn what you need to to pass and then forget it as soon as you walk out of the hall. also since loads of people get nervous during exams they wont do as well as they could. i think grades should be based on coursework and teacher assessment. instead of exams there should be coursework under sontrolled conditions, which we do anyway.

I also feel that taking exams on a particular day cannot evaluate a particular student. One should be evaluated over a period of time. When it comes to competitive exams, there is no alternative to exams. But those stupid term exams should be done away with.

yeah, I agree. Thought scores have become a comibination of many factors, like your semester performance and so forth, still it is hard to maintain the fair level.

Hi magic9 I dont think it should be advisable to eliminate exams. Exams are meant for exactly what the words is saying, to examinate how students are with the subjects. I dont enjoy exams, but i would retain exams as i think they are necessary.

Even if I hate exams, with most of the students that's the only way to make them study. If they (we) don't have a goal or some kind of obligation, they (we) get lazy and leave our studies behind. Is a neccessary bad thing, so I wouldn't abolish exams.

Well, exams are love-and-hate thing. I sometimes want to escape from them, but I have to face them tamely. I think exams embody our academic performance. If we do not try our hands on these, we never know how far we have gone in study.

i am still a student but i think that exams should stay well i am not sure about the others but exam is one of the factor that causes me to study. Without exams i would not probably revise as i would just listen and then understand what my teachers are teaching. exams are like test. they test the students whether they fully understand what they had learned before. it also give the students a mild version of the demand at the workforce. employers expect their employees to perform after they had learn something or completed a course. so indirectly students are being prepared for such things. i know study just for the sake of exam is defeating the one of the purpose of education but at least it made lots of student revising their syllabus

If a teacher only gives homework on projects, the student can use outside resources to complete the assignment such as asking a friend or parent for help. An exam is a true test of how much a person has learned and retained because all of their solutions and answers must come from their own knowledge and not from the help of anyone else.

In my opinion: Exams is very important and this is necessary for student to test their ability if they have something to learn on the subject that teacher taught. If there is no exam how can the teachers give student a grades or mark on their accomplishment...?

Exam is necessary for it will measure how far you learn from the subjects. The process of learning, studying and getting the aim grade also molds one character. In my opinion it is not just the mind that is exercise but your emotional maturity, social interaction, and a system of forming a mature society.

I think that exams are necessary. They show that a student has a thorough understanding of the lessons taught. I would keep them.

I never liked tests I mean come on why should one test tell me or someone else how smart they are for that matter. Often times we never use what we learned in school in real life its just a waste of life in my opinion. Though I do think everyone should know math and reading skills otherwise well alot of people won't be able to get by in life.

As a student,I really don't like exams. So as almost every student around me. However, exams are necessary, at least now. Although I hate exam, I also have to say that it drives me to study efficiently. To think of the days I study, they are the days before quizzes and exams! with high efficiency and initiative. I'm not a industrious student. In fact, to some degree I should thanks to the exams along with my shool life, or I may not learn as much as what exams require. Besides, it is still an effective way to test the level of study and help teachers to check the results of the students'study.

Although as a student I never really like exams, I think they are necessary to find out a person's understanding of his/her subject. It it the nerves before-hand that tend to be a problem and I think that this sort of stress or to be addressed and helped so that the students can just go into an exam room in a relaxed frame of mind. As as therapist, living near a university, I have helped many students with exam nerves. They just needed to view exams as a way of assessing what they had learned and not as a personal confrontation. - Derek

I think yes and no, though I couldn't give a clear answer for a number of reasons. Personally, I believe that the idea that exams truly test somebody's knowledge of a certain topic is a myth. They are a terrible measurement of a person's understanding of a material, and require plenty of hoop-jumping rather than individual thought. However, if exams were to be suddenly removed (which I severely doubt), we will have nothing to be able to categorize students based on skill and intelligence, which mainly defeats the purpose of modern-day education. Unfortunately, with exams, I believe that people merely study and and learn the exam and not the topic itself. I've witnessed many people who I (and teachers) were positive would fail ace an exam paper simply because they had the exam material and contents drummed into their heads for ages, and I've seen many intelligent individuals flop so hard because the exam questions have been very ambigious or irrelevant to the actual topic they have studied. As many of my high school teachers told me before I sat my dreaded GCSEs, it's not about telling the examiner what you know and have learned from study, it's all about telling them what they want to hear and matching what they have written down on their marking sheets. Is it unfair? Probably. Is there a solution? Not likely.

Exams are there to proove yourselves. However, as a student I also declare that exams should be stopped. Why? Exams put a lot of stress on students of all ages, it also takes away a bunch load of free time. Besides stress, panic is added because you are worried that if you don't pass that exam than bad things will happen to you and you will think that your future is a dark one. I believe that training students by testing them on certain things to see if they know them or not, but other people might have different opinions. Free the students!

As far as I am concerned,I don't like exams. But I have been living together with exams from the day I attended school. From my opinion ,teachers always use exams to know what the students learned from their lectures, but exams are not the best way to measure one's ability,an exam can't show nothing about the students....
