I tend to not tear it open just in case I can re-use the box inside or if I really like the wrapper. But if I do not like the wrapper then I definitely will just tear it apart and throw it right away. I guess it really depends on the person who is opening the gift. Kids would definitely rip it open but exceptions to some kids who wants to keep the wrapper like my son. For some reason he thinks its a waste to rip it open so he gently takes out the tape.

I always open them slowly and carefully, because I know myself not to be a very anxious person, especially when it comes to receiving presents. It's hard to explain why, but the concept of a present equals, in my case, with a sort of disappointment. And it's not like I don't appreciate presents, even though some of them might be given to me more from a sense of obligation than from that person's heart. It's just that I don't even know what I'd want for myself. How could the others know then, and give me something I'd enjoy 100%? And when it comes to the little things I do know I want, I'd rather get them on my own than have them given to me for free. I'd rather know I've worked my brains out for them.
So the moment I have a present in my hands, not only do I expect it to be something that, most likely, won't make me jump through the roof with joy, but I also feel the other person's expectation hanging onto my shoulders, awaiting to see my reaction. So unwrapping the present is like a delaying process. I do it slowly (even amazingly slowly when it comes to a wrapping paper I actually like, because then I really don't want to destroy it) and I prepare my reaction. I don't want to disappoint anyone, because, in fact, most of the presents I get are cute and somehow match my way of being. But with my difficult personality, it's impossible for me to act all excited. Sometimes I only realize that I like a present a few days after I got it. That's why I prepare my reaction during the unwrapping process, I build up the energy to show myself happy with the gift. I know that this makes me a sort of liar, but I prefer to see myself as being a great pretender. It's for everyone's benefit, in the end.

Hey there, BoredomOverdose! Didn't think we were the same at this. Glad you started mylotting and I discovered this about you. It's probably the sort of thing I would have never asked (therefor never would have found out). As I said before, I, too unwrap my presents extremly slow, but our motivations are a little different. While yours is a bit of a necessity in order for you to compose yourself for the actual present, mine is more of a whim , to tease the person that gave me the gift. I just love the fact they seem more excited about the gift than myself for actual receiving it.
Call me evil if you want, but I just think can't help it :)
See, jugsjugs, I told you that unwraping a present can actually tell you things about someones personality!

hi jugsjugs I open gifts slowly and leep the wrapping paper as sometimes I do run out and that saves my neck. besides some of
it is so pretty its a shame to just tear it up a nd toss it. I am a saver by nature I guess but sometimes it has paid off too.
I just wish this Christmas I had more money to work with. I usually get a one hundred dollar bill from a close relative but that usually comes too late to help my holiday buying.

It really depends on whre i am and who I am with. When i am with my family I just rip them open but am careful enough not to destry the gift. There are some places and people that I just carefully open the gifts because tearing them open seems foolish around them. it think it is much more fun when you tear them open..

Yes I rip the wrapping paper on the gift right open. I then put the wrapping paper in a trash bag so none of the gifts accidently get thrown out with all the paper on the floor.

I am one of those people that drives other people nuts because I am so careful about opening presents it is always my intention to save the paper and re-use it. Unfortunately though the minute I am not looking half the time my husband will take all the paper and shove it in a garbage bag anyways, so all my effort is wasted.

I do try to open them very carefully in not tearing up the wrapper too much. Im more of a scavenger you see, so I keep the boxes and the wrapping paper with the thought that I might have a use for them one of these days. I also recycle them whenever the holidays are fast approaching and I havent found a use for the wrapping paper. Of course I take care not to use the wrapper on the gift for someone who gave me the gift with that same wrapper the previous year. Mostly though I use those wrapping paper for covering my notebooks. Instead of the usual plain notebook cover, I cover it up with the colorful wrapping paper. I make use of them by making them into gift boxes as well.^_^

I was just thinking about this very thing. At my one inlaws on Christmas Day there would be a absolute sea of wripped and torn paper all over the living room floor. Now when I was a young girl and had Christmas at my grandma's and grandpa's my grandma would make us very carefully open each present and keep it from year to year. And the tinsle was done the same way. We had it for many years. Truth!

Now days it is pretty much like tissue paper anyway. Would be very difficult to save.

I used to be one of those that just teared right into the wrapping and had no option but to put it in the bin for recycling. Now, with money being tight and purse strings firmly pulled, I try and open all presents as carefully as possible so that the wrapping paper can be re-used. This is harder then it sounds as some people use lots and lots of sellotape but I have been known to cut around the sellotape so that it can still be used.

I guess I am just a kid at heart. I tear right into the package to where there is no choice but to throw it away. I tried one year to savage some of the paper thinking that I would keep it for the next year gifts. HA..that was a joke. I ended it tearing it more during the process of trying to save it. I guess it not meant for me to be the saving type person..LOL
Have a good evening and keep smiling.

Hi Jugs,
I do both. If the gift wrapper is worth keeping and recycling i set it aside. But most of the wrappers are easily ripped so you can't recycle it anymore. So i put them on the recycle bin too. When i was a kid i love collecting gift wrappers especially those glossy ones.

one of the good things about ripping the gift wrapper is that according to the oldies' saying you will be receiving some more gifts LOL. so some really rip it off for fun of expecting some more gifts coming!

Many people usually just rips out the wrapping paper but I usually open it carefully and unveils the gift by either pulling off the tape or pulling the paper with its tape. I usually keep the wrapping paper in my closet for MEMORIES. I just pile them and keep them as they were because I like to recall whom has given me a gift with that wrap, that sort of stuff. It is worth awhile, really =)

Whenever I get a present I am very eager to see what it is. I will usually rip the wrapping paper right off, and throw it in the trash. It really has no use to me after someone opens the present or I open the present. Your friend has a very creative and interesting idea. I like it.

Yes I do. The moment I am handed a neatly wrapped package containing something nice for me, I immediately shred the wrapping paper to pieces like some savage animal, caught up in the excitement and thrill of being given a gift.
I've never been one to save wrapping paper because personally I've just never seen the point. In my mind, wrapping paper exists for one purpose, and one purpose only, to be shredded open and reveal what lays beneath.
However, I do make sure to recycle all my wrapping paper after it's been completely torn and hacked apart. I'm not a monster!

When I was a kid I used to savagely rip and tear open the wrapping paper and throw it on the floor, now that I'm older I don't do that anymore. I realise that who ever gave me this present spent so much time and effort just to wrap this present and I tear it apart in a few seconds. So lately. what I do is get a scissors and slowly cut the wrapping paper as if I was opening a letter. After I cut the wrapping paper, I keep it so the next year I use it when I need to wrap gifts for my family.
