Anyone Else Just ESCAPING For Christmas?

Canada
December 4, 2009 8:39pm CST
Due to bizarre circumstances my husband and I have decided to forgo the traditional family celebration this year, and get out of town for a day. We are going to our favourite hotel in toronto, where we are going to spend a day in the pool, getting massages, eating out, and just having a great time. We need a vacation, even if its just a little one. We will see our family members individually, during the month of December, as opposed to being in a room full of people, and having a big stressful, eventfull day. We need to relax this year!! Is anyone else doing something similar? Does anyone else do this kind of thing on a regular basis?

I escape every day when I put on some music. The vacation ends when I take out the ear buds. Sounds like you guys are going to have some fun.

Hubby and I will probably both work Christmas. We did our big getaway at Thanksgiving. Actually what you have planned sounds pretty nice.

Walker and I have wanted to spend a night together in that hotel for a good long time, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. We can't wait!

I was talking to my friend yesterday about getting hotel on the lake front in Michigan for Christmas. Probably 4-6 people will join us, so we are planing on fun and relax. We will stay there only for 2 nights, but enough to get rest.

That sounds like ti will be alot of fun for you both. I have thought about doing something like this also after I get my daughter raised. she is 17 right now and will be 18 in February. We may do something like this next year. I hate the same old hectic thing also.

my sister is flying home to be with our uncle on Christmas Day - not that it matters, I have to work anyway She will be here from the 17th to the 24th and we'll do Christmas Eve, which was always our family time anyway after we got grown.

Christmas eve is a very special time for Danish and German people, so I know how special the 24th is. :)

Christmas Eve was important to us because Dad didn't like to get up early, opening presents the night before meant sleeping in on the day.

Hi danishcanadian, We have done that a few times and they have been the most relaxing holidays. This year we will be at home so let the stress commence lol. We kind of alternate from home and away each year.

I'm never that lucky. Each year I'm subjected to torturous family get togethers that I'd love to avoid. So I just kind of make myself scarce in the house to try and avoid them at all costs. Atleast for the most part I won't have to be around them too much since I am out on my own for the most part. I'll just be home a few times this month and that's it.

Sounds lovely. I'd love to do the same, but my cousin insists I spend Christmas with her & her hubby and our aunt. That'll be in T.O., too, by the way -- taking the GO to Union Station, then the subway up Yonge to Lawrence.

Well, not me because I miss my family ,and I haven't spent Christmas with them for over 12 years ,so I think is about time to spend time with them and have a great celebration since we are traveling to Florida for a few days ,and it will be good to escape the cold weather. We all get along great ,so to me is a day full of love and memories to cherish forever.

I do not feel I have to escape at Christmas. I is my favorite holiday and I love spending time with my family and friends during the holidays. It does get a little stressful but watching family members open presents and the smile on their faces make it all worth while. And also the food it so good can't miss it.
