I have this question for my self just a couple of minutes ago, and I just have to write it here.
Who is a better musician? The one that can read a piece then play it. Or The one that play the piece when he hears it but can't read the piece?
I know they have different way of playing but which is better?

Hello mr. Balu ,dont u think you are gate crashing ,or you have more to add..you should elaborate a bit more on your statement so as we get what you want to share.or maybe u need to brush up
a little on your comprehension,'who' doesnt mean any single individual but representative of 2 groups. You have any discussions you wanna talk about,be glad to join in yours or point you to one thats fits your bill.

The which part I admit I made a mistake. But please if your trying to correct someone. Make sure youre right ok ma'man? Im only talking about 2 types of musician here. So we can't use "best" rather use better.
And if it's the worst discussion don't bother to write any comment? OK?

hi boyetski,
I think better musician is someone who can play a music he/she just heard, even without an idea of the real "piece" of the music. There are people like blind artist that can actually maneuver a guitar and mimic the song perfectly, I mean he can copy the notes he just heard somewhere and he can play it right away.
By the way your topic ain't worst so don't mind that dude!!! I find it interesting, maybe he just don't get what you are trying to imply. lolzzz!
Happy Lotting!

Neither one tops the other. If you can play your heart out that's all that matter. And it's about dedication and for the love of music. Personally, I'm drawn to musicians who can listen to something and play it back right away without sheet music or tabs. That's impressive and not everyone has that ability.

Hi, Boyetski. I think that the one that can play it without knowing how to read it is the best musician in my opinion. Just take a look at Stevie Wonder. He is a great example of someone that can play the piece when he hears it but he can't read the piece. Stevie Wonder is permanently blind. He can hear the piece but he can't see it. To see the piece he would have to use his eyes, which he can't due to the fact that he is blind. So, he has his hearing ability, therefore he can hear the piece. Which makes him a great musician. Don't you think so?

Yes I agree to you cream. I think the same way too. It just happens that some musician with the capability to read music discriminate those who can play but can't read. NOT: I said SOMETIMES before any of our musician friends out there make a violent reaction.
Anyways I do agree with you cream

the one who can play it in a way that appeals to all who listens in..whether they can read music or not isnt really important..there are musicians who plays only by ear and can make the music come alive and there are the ones who can read and play very skillfully but more tecnical rather than soulful,in my book, the musician who thru his playing can get me into a melancholic state or joyful exuberance,is the better musician.

Yup,then that person is a good musician in the truest sense of the word..Its like listening to a programmed robot or computer playing music, definitely wont be any mistakes and melody is heard but compare it to live person who feels evrynote as they twang it out on their guitars or scream
out anguish in their violins or just get your feet tapping in a jazzy piano piece, its always the ability of the musician to be able to channel their energy and their emotions via their instruments and project it to their audience, and the great ones can do it with their eyes closed.
