What "types" of discussions do you start?

When I say that, I mean if you start discussions about things that are real or things that are theoretical? Some examples of a 'real' discussion would be "Today I saw on the news..." and "What do you like to do when..." and "Today, this happened to me..." Real discussions, as in discussions that talk about things that have happened, that can happen; things like that. This discussion right now is a 'real' discussion about discussions.
A 'theory' discussion would be about aliens or time travel or zombies, about these things that have not happened but make for interesting conversation. Discussions like, "Do you think we will develop Warp Drive" or something like that
So, which type of discussion do you prefer to start? I personally have done many 'theory' discussions when I was new but then I haven't made as much recently.

Hi Merlin,
I used to start discussion that talks about life, family, relationship, other health-related concerns and hobby. i want something experiential. This will encourage more people to respond because it is not limiting. Those who want to respond can easily connect to the topic.

you are right. responses will be fluid. not so restricted for a particular sector but all of us have something to say. we all have rich experiences worth sharing about life, relationship, family, etc...when i get the chance to write on watch out for more of this discussions from me. when? i don't know yet. i am into responding for this time!

Yes, I understand, starting these types of discussions may get more responses because they are about real things. Many people can relate to these things, so it may get more popular. . .

I usually start discussions that are "real", but I have a couple that I have been kicking around that are more of a theoretical theme. They could happen in real-life, but have not happened to me or anybody in particular that I know. I like responding to some that are of a more theoretical theme, though, since you can have more fun with them sometimes, as you are not confined to certain types of responses.

Also, they can lead to some fun banter and debate, but they should not produce some of the angry responses and name calling that some of the more factual discussions can bring about, because they are just theoretical. Nobody's ideas or beliefs can be proved or disproved, at least not right now, so there can be debate but no real "anger" issues.

I feel the same way, most of those theoretical discussions seem to be more fun. I think that topics like those are the ones that let people really voice their own opinion, and they are unlike the factual responses that come from the "real" discussions. I feel like starting one of those theory discussions right now. . .

So, you like starting those discussions about experiences you've had. . . In other words, the "real" discussions that I talked about.

Hi merlinsorca,
I am not much of a discussion starter, more of a responder. I like some of the theory discussions as they can be a bit of fun. I guess when I look back over my discussions they have been issues that have happened in my life and a few lame ones as well lol.

I agree, the theory discussions are very interesting and fun. I have not started many discussions about my own life, but about topics like mylot and things like that. But I used to start many of those discussions with the "What ifs"

Personally, I do not tend to start discussions. Instead, I just browse the site looking to respond to discussions already started, and contribute toward them in my own little way.
The types of discussions that I am more likely to join are discussions that make me think and provoke from me a well thought-out and balanced response. Also, discussions which have an intriguing or creative title always seems to lure me in and post a response. These are the sorts of discussions that I am most fond of and ensure that I visit MyLot on a daily basis

Yes, that makes sense, it's usually those interesting and thought-provoking discussions that are visited a lot. And a good title does help a lot, too. . . But, when you respond to a discussion, would that topic be about "real" things, or theoretical topics?

I don't really understand, what do you mean by "completely shear the friends life" ?

For me a lot of times it happens to be on things that are either happening within this world, here in myLot as a whole, and things going on within my own life, or family as well. I find when I am willing to talk about and share more of who I am many more are interested to see more of me as well. I am not one who starts a discussion about something unless I feel I have something interesting to share or talk about as well.

So, you mostly write about things that you have experienced and things that can happen, like those "real" discussions. I understand what you mean when you say that you won't start something unless you have some interesting things to say, I try to do the same.

It's true that almost anything could be used as a topic for a discussion on myLot, but I can't say that I feel the same way about those topics. I think it is a bit harder to come up with an idea for 'life' and 'questions & answers' and I tend to make discussions about myLot but that is just my opinion.

My discussions centre round issues on which I seek answers/opinions/solutions. Here we have a crowd of knowledgeable people who can surely contribute in this direction. I also sometimes feel a bit naughty and start a discussion that get impish answers and that in a way relieves us of our day to day tensions.

MyLot discussions are really helpful with getting answers for questions, and also good for having some fun. . . I guess that means you tend to start more "real" discussions in contrast to the theoretical topics.
