Love is "inspite of or because of"?

I got this wisdom from a minister of our church. Do we love someone "inspite of" or "because of". He said there is a distinction between the two. What is your idea or experience regarding this topic.

Inspite of... When loving someone, you love the person inspite of his imperfections. Because you have learned to accept the person for what he is, good or bad.

Love will still remain no matter what, you cant make a heart to love somebody, you can tell it what to do, but it wont listen at all.However, you can make a heart to love, but you can't make them fall.
