Is it dangerous if my baby is exposed to computers at home? We are living in an apartment, which is not so big. We have computers working most of the time, which is also near where my baby is usually playing. With this, I am worried about my baby's health. I have heard about the negative effects of radiation to one's health and I'm confused if computers can be harmful, especially to baby. Do you have the same experience? It would be great to hear some advices from other parents. Thank you!

Don't worry about radiation from computers because the negative effects are very minimal. With today's manufacturing standards, companies have gone a great length making computers safe to us, even to babies. Just look for Energy Star logo for safe, less radiation computer brands. What you should worry about is the danger of your baby being electrocuted if he/she touch one of those live electrical wires/cables plugged in to a live electrical outlet. Be careful, especially if you are using desktop computers with wires plugged in to electrical outlets. It's better to replace large and full of wires and cables desktop with wireless laptop.

Hello, magtibaygom! Thank you for your response with this topic. (It's been a couple of weeks since I last visited my mylot account. Nice to know that a lot of mylot users responded to it. I would probably follow all your advices.) It is just confusing that some people say there is radiation, while others say there is no radiation. Well, with or without, it is best to be very careful. Let all those electrical cables or wires away from my baby. Have a wonderful day!

Of course it is danferous/ Even my grandson aged four used sit in the system doesnot leave the system even for lunch. He became very mad by sitting in front of the system. which started affecting his eyes/ Then after consulting with the doctor he advised that he should not use computer for a long time. After taking the advice of the doctor we dont allow him to sit in the system for a long period.

Hello, nathanmani! I'm so sorry to hear that, but it is good that you set a limit to your grandson. It must be some of those online games, right? It is so nice to have a computer but sitting too long in front of it can really affect the user's eyes. It can even cause backpain or body pain because of lack of exercise. Thank you for sharing your story and letting other people read the danger that a person can get from too much exposure to computers. Have a wonderful day!

Hi there. I have a baby daughter and she is five months old. My toddler son is two and a half years old. My oldest son is fourteen years old. I have a laptop and a net book. I have a small house. I worry about all the exposure my children get to computers. I wonder about all the radiation.

i think that laptop don't give much radiation compared to crt monitor. but i guess most people now are not using that old monitor. but i am still using. ha ha. but i don't think that babies will that be affected. or any children. but the danger is electrocution i think when the desktop is of course is plugged. so like if children are playing carrying like a cup of water and just accidentally spilled that on to the cpu. well my imagination is running wild. actually i would not use a computer if there are children around. but in my place we don't have kids so it is safe for us.

Hi, jaz2009. I would think that having a computer around can be dangerous. Especially, if you may have any loose cords that are on the floor that needs to be picked up. And also, if your computer tends to run hot a lot that can be dangerous too. If your child has a sippy cup and they go near the computer and waste their drink on it, it can be fatal. With a computer, I will usually have it shut up in the computer room. If I have a laptop, it will be closed facing down. These days, kids can find any and every way to get into things. So, it is best to not leave the computer opened out in the air.

no not really, that radiation will not harm your babies, its some myth and yeah it can effect your eyes but its for the one who use PC not the one who are near computer and playing :) its like a myth that you cannot use mobile on gas station which is busted by myth buster on National geographical program so you can use pc whenever you want but don't let your babies to comes near the wires of computer.

Hello, zahidz! Thank you for your response. Yes, it could also be a myth to warn people, especially parents. By this, parents will not use computers near their children. With or without radiation, keeping the computer and its wires and cables from children's reach is a very good practice. Have a wonderful day!

babies are very delicate. it is dangerous to expose your baby to the computers. because of the radiations from it. not only computers but cell phone too. just imagine our cellphones nowadays doesnt have antenna to receive waves. the antenna are already built-in the cellphone. so dont put also your cell phone near your baby.

Maybe I am just stupid I did not know that computers have radiation... I know that mircowaves work on radioactive waves but computers did not even cross my mind. The only thing that I would think would be harmful as far as the computer would be setting or looking at the screen in close proximity just like what they used to say about television... I really do not know that any wisetails have been proven about that either though. I used to hear alot about that growing up though about setting to close to the tv will cause eye strain.

Radiation is indeed very harmful to everybody especially babies who are starting to develop there senses, organs, and mind. The effect is not seen in an instant, but it will develop as the baby ages. they are prone to memory deterioration at the early age, poor memory, poor focus and concentration, and worst of all, brain cancer. I suggest that if possible you should take a distance from PC to your baby.

Hey jaz.. Nothing to worry about that..Computers contains electronic circuits which does not emits much radiation..it is very much less than what we compare to the radiation in our atmosphere or in our environment.. But please be careful with wireless devices..they are higly dangerous to babies..especially cellular phones..

well in that case there's always a lot of radiation that goes on throughout the day.. we are exposed to all different kinds of radiations, so we dont really need to blame only compters. But that is a necessary evil of ths age. SOrry though I'm no parent mself, even then you cant be so protective of your child and keep him from his daily inevitable doses of radiation pollution etc.

I am also confused, some reports say it is very dangerous to our health if we stay with the computer too long time , some reports say the effect is very very small, who we can believe? But the fact is many many people stay with the computer 8 hours one day atleast. And most of them health is good. But for baby, it is difficult to say, maybe it is better to make the far distance between your baby and your computer.

NO THANKS ! i am not married and i don't have experience. yes i can say that you need to always keep positive thinking about your babby. If you fear about that matter, you should make partition to computers.

Don't worry about, just take some action to prevent. Computer radiation injury to the baby a lot indeed. so let the baby away from the computer or use something block against computer radiation.

There are so many dissenting opinions about the effects of radiation from the pc. There are those who say that there is none and those who say otherwise. The best thing for me to do is just to avoid for your baby to be exposed to the pc. Perhaps you can place your pc at a higher level than your child. If what your using is a desktop then there is probably no problem since your child will be on the floor most of the time. If it's a laptop then I suggest placing your laptop on the table instead of the bed or the floor where your child might be.

I have a small son aged one year old. He loves to walk next to his mother's laptop and drags it sometimes when we do not notice him. I don't think that it does much harm to my baby as it is a laptop. What's more, he does not always walk to it to play.

I don't think the computers have any more effect than say, the TV or cellphonse also within a small area. I understand that you are trying to be as safe as possible and trying everything for your baby, but I don't think you should worry about it. If you want, you could try to distance your baby away from the computers as much as possible, but I think this is just all for your peace of mind. Have a great day!

Being a mum of a seven-month old baby, I fully understand your worries. To be careful, I should say it is better to keep your baby away from the computer. All electric appliances are harmful to our health. And it is quite likely your baby is attracted by the computer screen, which is bad for his or her eyes too.

well, theres no proof of PC radiation can affect health, but it is not wise to let your baby staring at the monitor too long, it is affect the baby's eye. i think the most important things when you have babies around is to keep him/her safe from electric current, by not expose it.

yup... i did the presentation of computer before... i done the research of the disadvantage of the computer... the radiation is very high and we can't avoid it, only can management the time connect with the computer... -the integrated screen often causes user to hunch over a better view. which can cause or spinal injuries. -can raise the temperature of scrotum, it lead to damaging sperm count -cause skin discoloration on the thighs.
