As my friends know here, I lost use of my car recently due to transmission problems. Well it turned out to be the transmission as I suspected. It was totally shot they said. All told it was $3300 and some change to reapir. The transmission as well as the cooling lines were replaced. I got the car back in 2 days of them starting to work on it. So I used a junker my daughter loaned me a few days was all. I was shocked they finished my car so quickly. I expected at least a week of time from start to finish. Have you ever been shocked at the quickness of a mechanic you used to repair major problems with your vehicle? No photo this time. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Wow, that is quite a chunk of change! I pray that our vehicles don't need repair anytime soon. I couldn't afford to have it done. You do have to come to expect to repair a car at some point in time. But, is there every really a "good" time for a car to break down? There are some mechanics that get the work done quickly and others that take their dear sweet time. I prefer the job to be done fast and accurately too.

Our last repair took twice as long as estimated, they could not find correct parts. Their own equipment kept breaking, and they ended up jacking up the bill by an extra $265.

We had to borrow the money from my daqd. We will pay him back a little each month. Probably just $100 a month as it's hard to afford any more each month. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

i had to think on that one Grandpa Bob, and yes but it was not an engine thing, we had four flat tires on the freeway along with nine other vehicles. a keg of nails had fallen off a truck and scattered over the freeway causing ten of us to have disabled cars and trucks. this one wonderful handsome older man with silver hair was in a limosene driven by his chauffeur and he rescued us. he use his aas card to get our truck towed to his garaged that he owned a nd he paid for four new tires for us whom he did not know at all, then he took us to dinner in one of the italian restaurants he owned and would not let us pay him a penny for any of this. we had our little Lisa rose with us,my son was home with his grandmother. she really embarrassed me as she had to go potty and before I cou ld get her into the ladies room she just let go. the one mechanic gave me a really sour look but I did not want to have to explain she was brain damaged a nd I had been unable to potty train her no matter how hard I tried.but the italian man just said dont be upset , we have a little daughter who is a special needs child and she has has done that too. he was indeed an angel for sure. I never have met anyone like that since. he did not want and would not take out money at all.

OUCH!!! Glad you got the car fixed but jeezzzzz..costs almost as much as the engine to have it replaced. They must of been lacking business or you were VIP to them to get it done so fast. Guess the car is good for another 4 yrs before it goes out again. lol I've been mildy shocked when my car is done quicker than I would think possible. Hope the guy did everything right.

It is where I bought the car and took for oil changes etc for the first three years actually. So that may have something to do with the speediness of the service. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Sure does! I remember when the dealership in town here where I bought my car at was still in business. I would just drive up, let them know what was going on and they would leap-frog my car up to first to get worked on that day so it would be done when I need it.

Hey Grandpa Bob! Wow! That was a nice chunk of change! And that was really quick to fix such a major part! Sorry it cost you so much money, especially right around Christmas! But, I guess it would have been worse to have to buy a new car! And I know how much you love that car! Glad you were able to borrow one too so you saved some money on that too! Now I hope there won't be any more suprises!

Only used the car a little bit actually that I borrowed. My wife took the bus and I only had to drive a mile and a half to the bust stop to get her. It was about an hour later than she usually gets home if I pick her up so no big deal really. But I missed the driving in all actuality. I love driving. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Oh yes that was fast. My husband is very good at fixing our cars. That way I don't have to worry with a repair shop. However a couple of years ago my husband was working out of town. My transmission had went out and I had no other choice but to take it to a repair shop. They had to put in a whole new transmission. I luck out and got one for only $250 and they charged me another 200 to put it in for me. It did however take them a week to fix it. So yes you were very lucky. Have a nice day and keep smiling.

Your mechanic got all the speed and mine got the slow dragginess. They must have had all the parts close to hand and could work straight through. I missed the discussion about what went wrong originally.

I rememberr you starting the discussion about your car. That is a terrible amount to pay. My car wouldnt even be worth that amount. If something like that went wrong with my car, it would be cheaper to buy another 2nd hand car. I have had my car for 14 years. It is a hyundai excell. It has been a great little car. But things are wearing down on it, little things mostly, but sometimes bigger items. At the moment the door handle on the front passenger side is stuffed, making it hard to lock. I am just waiting for some more money and I will buy a better 2nd hand car. My daughter has to learn to drive in my car. At the moment she is the onky one amongst her friends who learns in a manual car, rather than auto.

Yeah, that was pretty quick Bob. You might remember I was having problems with my car too. I ended up taking it back after they put in a new crankshaft sensor and they worked on it and decided it need a couple of more things...like a new fuel tank and fuel pump, both of which were replaced 2 years ago.It also turned out that the cause of the problem was an incorrect fuel cap ($30), so far I'm up to about $1200. They've had the car for 4 days...waiting to source parts and other jobs but they gave me a loaner cos I need a car to transport my clients as I'm a volunteer driver. Hope your "new" car goes like a dream.

No, not really. My dad uses a guy that is really cheap and knows what he is doing, but is as slow as molasses.

I am happy to hear that you got your car back so quickly. That has happened to us maybe one time before also. Usually it takes alot longer for repairs to be done. It is rarely done quickly.

I haven't been surprised by quick repairs. We have a very close friend that is a great mechanic. He usually handles our car repairs in a jiffy. We just have to get the car to him. Our schedule is most often the time problem!

I dunno I don't recall how long it took the last time I had a major problem with a vehicle. I do know what the problem was in my 94 saturn, my rotors were rusted and I had to have engine guides put in, thankfully it was still under warranty. Othewise any other big problems since I've been driving weren't really big. They happen to my hubby upon occasion and every time he trades it in instead of just getting it repaired and trading into a bigger payment too.

No I have never had that luck. Knowing Buick is a good car I'm sure you'll be OK now forever. Seems like a lot of money and it's times like this when you wish you were a mechanic. Love your hat as usual.hehehehe

For that money I would expect them to carry you everywhere whilst they fixed your car Grandpa Bob! My car recently went in for a service - just an oil change. I took it in at 8am and they said that it would be ready for 1pm. I turned up at 1 and whilst they found the keys I noticed that on the work ticket it said that the latest that they could stat the work was 12.30. So my car would take at the most 30 minutes. Turned out that they were still working on the car when I arrived so it had sat there for over four and a half hours for a 30 minute job. So that was a quick job that took a long time to deliver. $200 in your money too. Makes me wonder I I'm not in the wrong business!

It cost me about $800 total to repair my transmission in my Taurus. First the pump went bad and I paid a local guy to do that, but he apparently didn't put new seals in when he installed it, so a few months later, the pressure from the new pump blew the seals, so that added to the cost - in fact, that was the biggest part of the cost because they had to tow the car to the shop and it wasn't an "off the books" repair. But, as far as being shocked at how fast someone repaired the car - I don't have a real good idea how long some repairs should take to be able to say.

How happy I am to hear that! No one needs car trouble, but most especially not in the cold months of the year. Brrr! Karen
