praying God

Prayer - A family doing the prayer
India
December 7, 2009 8:35am CST
Hello friends Do you spend atleast 5 minutes to pray your God daily? I will. Every day, after taking bath in the morning, I will clean the place where we kept our idols put some rangolis light a silver lamp and incense sticks and some offerings in the form of fruits, and flowers and pray for 10 mts. In this way I will get some peace of mind and mental solace. Again in the dusk, i will light the lamp and incense sticks and pray for 5 mts

Hi vathsala! I also pray to God, however, in my own manner. The system which you follow is a good one because my better half follows the same system and she is very particular about it. Hopefully, she prays not only for the well being of herself but for entire family. I do agree with you that praying and meditation help us calm ourselves.

Hi deepak How do you doing? Ofcourse each one will pray the god in their own style and manner. But the devotion and dedication is important. Any housewife will pray god or does anything, will be for the entire family only especially for their husband and children's welfare. You understood this secret but not all the men folk.

that is a very nice habit vathsala. I go to temples often, but don't pray at hoem daily, regularly like you. Wish I had this habit.

When you have time to go to temples, why not at home?Daily after taking bath, atleast stand in front of your favourite God (not better half)for 2 minutes with your palms touching each other, eyes closed and concentrate entirely your mind on the deity just for two minutes. then prostrate and go. Start from tomorrow onwards and see the difference and how you feel. bye

I want to pray at home daily vathsala, but I skip it somehow. I used to go to temple daily in the morning soon after the bath. Now I don't go to temple daily. I do some breathing exercises and a short meditation(all self learned-don't know whether it is doing good to me or harm to me) I know your whole family are expert in mediation and pranayama.

Hi, I too have that habbit. the first thing i do after bath is praying. I dont know the time i spend. It may be little. But i say gayathri manthram 5 times, slogas for guru bhagavan, vinayagar each 21 times. And then pray for all my family members, friends, their families and their friends too. Vinayaka mantram, anjaneya, saraswathi, rama, tulasi mantrams I will chant before going to bed. In the morning immediately after getting up i will chant seeing both my palms, karagre vasudhe lakshmi, kara madhyena saraswathi, kara moole mahadevi prabhate karadarshanam, and it is good praying early in the morning. My praying starts from the time I get up from the bed. I pray Shirdi Baba, Sathya Sai Baba, Kubera and Adithya i.e. Sun God for one or two minutes, for the day to pass in a good way for all my family members. Then while taking bath I chant few stotrams like Sani, Navagrahas, Vinayaka, Anjaneya, Rama, Krishna, Light, Raghavendera Swamy etc. Though the list is big, the stotras are small. So I will finish during my bath. Pooja is done by my husband. So I do not do in the morning. In the evening again few stotras in front of God I will chant while lighting the lamp. Before going to bed I write Sri Rama Jayam and read Sai Satcharitra one or two paragraphs. Do namaskaram and go to bed. This is my daily routine.

Nilavilakku (particular lamp for Pooja) - This the lamp using at pooja time in South India. Every home is having the particular lamp.
Hi vathsala,I have been this habit since childhood and at home it is very particular to do it everyday. It is the duty of the kids to sit and pray in loud voice at the time of dusk. All home have particular lamp for the prayers, which is considered as the prosperity of the house. Here in morning time it is not possible to light up the particular lamp and space is also less and we don’t have particular room for pooja but we have idols and photos of God. But I feel odd to light up and pray because my son is getting up late. I think you got the point. But evening I do the same on possible days. I do pray many times in a day in mind.

Hi sree It indeed gives me immense pleasure to see the lamp. Generally in so many houses, people will make pooja within their means, some will offer candles, some other will light the sacred lamps and the people who have no idols or photos of their worship, will pray with their holy books. In whatever way it may be, praying is important and it gives us immense pleasure and peace of mind and a feeling that somebody is by our side to help us

hello patrickharvey Really it is it. our mind will be refreshed if we simply close our eyes with our hands folded and stand in front of our God. No need to chant any prayers, he himself will do the needful for his disciples. Thank you for sharing your valuable thoughts my friend.

I have to say, I pray to God ever so often without any specific place or time. I would pray if I feel negatively on a specific matter or when I am in the middle of traffic. I see to it that I pray such as when I talk to my friends. The relationship with God is important to me and thus praying just shows Him that I remember him in everything I do and it is not just for show.

I don't practice any particular religion but I am a very spiritual person and believe there are things beyond what we can see and feel physically. I usually pray when myself or someone else is in crisis and needs help. It makes me feel more comfortable and gives me strength. Whether this is a false sense of things or not I don't care. It helps me. Who knows, someone could be listening, whatever form that might be.

Hello lynkshadow I appreciate your policy. Some power is existing. But we do not know its shape, size and name. But people are giving that super power their own name and shape. In whatever form or name may be, we must admit that some one is there around us invisible and helping us in times of need.

Hi chenyun I know that chinese are hard workers. Still each religions will be having their own gods, deities, or idols to worship with, but only the method of praying will be different. During the festival times, how you will worship and to whom you offer your offerings?
