Hi friends, Mostly it is seen that a lady leaves her career when she becomes a mother. Whether she's a film actress, politician, or anything. A few months back i met a lady doctor, when i asked her she told she had left her job to take care of her children and will work as a freelancer. So, some times such conditions occur to many women. I would like to give a recent example of a famous tennis star Kim Clijster, she had almost quitted her career when she was married to famous basketball player brian lynch . After three years she made a fantastic comeback by winning US Open 2009 and become first women to win grand slam after becoming mom.
So, what is your opinion friends? Do you think that being a mother is a hindrance in women career?

Hi
I think there are many aspects in this
I mean successful woman can continue their career as they have people and the money to look after their kids,But the story is very different when it comes to people like you and me.I had to quit my full time work after I had my first one as the company I worked wanted me to give them more hours and I couldn't so i was asked to put in my papers.
I think big firms should have flexible arrangements for moms who are their employees

to others who get lost in having children left and right then having children is something they do to stop their careers from ever taking off. no offense... but having children entails either you take a break from your job for the meantime (with the great possibility of unemployment in the long run) or stay in your job but risk losing hold or control on your children. that's why i prefer only one kid. i can guide him and in due time get back to work. peace

Well, I also don't think being a mother is a hindrance in women career. Being a freelancer doesn't mean it's a hindrance too. Being a mother is a choice, whether or not to continue playing a very important role in the career is also a choice in our life.
As for myself, I have been always thinking of being a freelancer even before I have my baby. But now, after my baby was born, I finally decided to quit my daily job and wanna stay at home, taking care of him, and also pursue my own dream. I don't think it's any hindrance of my career, perhaps it really gives me the inspiration or pressure to really go for what I want to do.

well it depends i suppose.
in some careers they make no allowances for family. you are required to put in crazy hours, and most mothers would choose to give up such careers for their family, which is more important in the long run. so in those careers being a mother actually hinders them from progressing.
but if the company is progressive, and forward-looking and family friendly, then being a mother or not should make no difference, because a mother is required to put in the same number of hours as one who is not a mother.

men and women are the same but different, I am a single dad so I'll re-phrase your question is being a parent a hindrance ??
I have my kids full time for the last 6 years and I have my own very successful company which I have had for over 10 years.
Personally speaking being a single dad has not held me back at all, I will agree that you usually have to be flexible.
My best mate is a single mam of 4 kids and shes a nurse, but instead of working 12 hour shifts she does bank nursing and usually works 3 days a week.
So in this day and age whether yu are male of female no I don't think being a parent, dad or mother will hinder your career you just have to be a bit more clever and flexible.

Being a mother is not a hinderance if you have prepared and made a decision to have kids. It is wrong to say it is a hinderance because it comes out that it was not planned therefore being a mother is a hinderance with your career. Many times people see it that way but I don't. I think the best thing in this world is being a mother and career only goes next to family.
