The first domino falls on mammogram guidelines

Well we had several on the left claiming that Task Force who claimed women shouldn't get mammograms until they are over 50 wouldn't set policy. Well it's started. Naturally, it began in the most left wing state in the country where there is so much support for the bogus healthcare bill.
"The eligibility age for state-subsidized breast cancer screening has been raised from 40 to 50 by the California Health and Human Services Agency, which will also temporarily stop enrollment in the breast cancer screening program."

This is just the first step. Other states and insurance companies will do the same thing, but hey, this is what the left wants. Ration the preventative medicine. I don't think there's any doubt that this change will lead to women "dying quickly."

conspiricy theorist! Fear monger! Your just being paid by insurance lobbies to push lies about national healthcare! Right wing nut! You want people to die with no healthcare! Rich fat cat!
Hadn't seen any proponents of the current considered pan in here yet and thought you might be missing their comments, so I took up some of the slack for them

Thanks for pulling their weight. Annie actually agreed with me when I originally posted about that task force, but later I saw her defending Obama saying the task force doesn't set policy. Hopefully she'll post here although she may be the only lefty to do so.

Taskr, I wouldn't say I was "defending Obama". I was repeating the words I'd heard from the Secretary of Health and Human Services, that this wouldn't set policy. If I remember correctly, this was BEFORE I'd become aware this "independent panel" had all been appointed during the Bush Administration.
Whatever the case, I STILL think this sucks and I fear if something isn't done about it quickly it will be bad news for women. The insurance companies will likely raise the age limit immediately if Congress doesn't step in.

Annie, regardless of who appointed the members of the US Preventative Services Task Force, they will be setting policy.
"according to language in the current Senate health care reform bill under consideration, only services rated an "A" or "B" by the USPSTF would be covered by a group health plan and health insurance issuers. Under the new recommendations, mammography for women in their 40s is rated a "C."
That's going to be the health care reform promised by this bill. Reform by means of denying important cancer screenings. Still think this bill is a good idea?

I think it is an outrage! Not satisfied by reducing Medicare Benefits and thereby reducing the life span of seniors now they are reducing the preventative befits available to younger women. In effect this reduces the linfespan of child bearing women. Next we may see a "One Child Policy" as they have in China thereby cutting another chunk of medical spending.

Taskr,
This is very concerning seeing I am only 38 and have to have mamograms yearly now. I am also on the State. I am not going by choice, this is a medical need for me. This is concerning because how many lives could be saved instead of deaths created by such a foolish mistake by the medical world and as you say "the left wing".
This is a concern for what is coming.

Well, Task, anyone who wasn't a One-eyed, one-horned, flying purple Kool-ade drinker knew this was coming. Yep, people are finally getting their eyes opened...if only by having their bank accounts closed by His Highness! More & more it appears we have another one-termer in the Office. Sooner, if possible....

Who did not see this happening? I sure did. So I am not shocked. The rationing has begone. And women will die because of it. But they don't care.

I really don't know what to think about this. I still have 10 years to go before I hit 40 years old and 20 years to go before I hit 50 years old. Regardless of these facts, I self check all the time and if I were to find a lump then I would not hesitate to head straight to the doctors to have it checked out. As far as all the reforms that are going on in healthcare, I'm not happy with them at all and this is just one of the things that I've seen that I don't like.
Will the change ultimately impact the lifespan of women? I don't really know, but I honestly believe that if women are conscientious of their bodies then it won't be a significant change because women that notice something that is off will still go to the doctor.

Well I hope women continue to self check. Keep in mind though, the federal task force that recommended waiting till 50 for mammograms also said women should NOT check themselves. This I found particularly offensive as I've known many women who found lumps either checking themselves, or being "checked" by their boyfriends.

One step closer to that beautiful utopia they've been trying to get to! All they've had to sacrifice along the way was, well, everyf$*kingthing.
Here's hoping that this socialistic uber-progressive care and its superior social reach will at least make people like us more! Yippppeeeeeeeee
