Yikes, sorry, I know I haven't responded back on my last 2 discussions. Going there next, really....
Got rudely awakened this morning before 5:30. It was the school district. School canceled due to weather. Looked outside and saw snow. Yep, it actually snowed. In fact, it's still snowing, though it's melting as soon as it hits the ground. The kids were pretty happy about it too. So I'm working from home and I have to post a picture so that all the folks I've razzed about their weather can get back at me a little.
So, where you're at, would school have been canceled for a little bit of snow?

Hi dawnald,
With that much snow the schools won't be shut over here, it has to be very heavy befor3e they think of shutting schools or public transport, but we don't often get snow here just rain and more rain.

It's cleared up, I should put on my warmest coat and go for a walk while I still can... Supposedly we're in for 8 more days of rain...

School is not cancelled here unless it's 25 below zero with windchill, or if they've declared a state of emergency due to too much snow, which has honestly only ever happened once in my life. We can get 3 to 4 feet in 12 hours and not blink an eye. 40 minutes north of me, they get about 12 feet in 12 hours and laugh at it! Seriously! A friend of mine lives up there and would drive down here for work and laugh at all of us who were beginning to fret at 6 feet of snow.

I've lived here my whole life, and I can't imagine living somewhere that doesn't get snow. I look forward to it most years, because I'm not crazy about too much heat. Right now we have not yet gotten our first real snow fall, and I'm looking forward to it! Gotta have lots of snow for Christmas.
Here's a pic I took last year. There's hardly any snow in this pic, think it was probably the first snow fall of the year... nice and clean! Those are my favs.

That's a good one!
We got a saying: "If you don't like the weather in Central, NY, wait a minute. It will change"
That's usually pretty true too. It was like 70 last week, now it's just started snowing! I'm very excited, it's the big fluffy flakes! I love them, it's so pretty!
I'll be sick of snow by like February though. Thankfully we usually get a nice thaw right about then... then another blizzard that lasts into March. One year we had snow on Mother's Day... I remember because it was my birthday!

As you already know, there are no snows in Singapore at all and I would love to experience one definitely in real-time. And not like in a holiday kind of setting, but a real place of my own where I could experience nice snowy weather. Perfect. Then I can play snow balls and throw at my family members for fun, LOL. And build snowman and etc2x. Things that I would do if only I have snow! Ah...I so envy you, Dawny..

Yeah.........every couple of years it snows here in Vegas.
But I lived in Minnesota/Wisconsin for 13 years so I know it's not REAL snow.
It's kinda nice to look at for the couple of minutes it lasts tho.

Last December I was flying from Sacramento to Burbank for a holiday lunch. I almost missed it due to snow in Vegas delaying my plane which delayed my car. Fun....

A little bit no but alot and especially snow and ice or extreme cold, yes. It seems when ever i tell a family member in iowa how nice it is in colorado the weather turns bad. Next time i'll just tell them to look online.
I would like to know how the outside plants get enough moisture since it doesnt rain in Cali.

Ah yes, there are the wasteful, water guzzling things that we plant. lol
Seriously, most of us have some sort of hoses or sprinklers or something.

Are you in Glendale in the Los Angeles area? We moved here from there 5 years ago. We almost never saw snow there except in the mountains!

The earliest a parent could have their kid over to the school (for extended day care) would be 7 AM, so why the heck they needed to call at 5:30, I don't know.

it took at least 4-6 before we got called off/cancelled.

well if it happened here in the phoenix area im sure school would be canceled just from the shock it snowed in this part last time somewhere in like '96 or '97 for long enough to look like a little frost on everything, maybe 3 minutes but melted in even less time.

That's not always a bad thing unless you are looking for mother nature to dismiss you from either a day of work or a day of school. I live in Michigan and we are getting pretty heavy snow daily now. I cannot stand the snow and would much rather be in the position of having no snow all the time and having hotter days to deal with rather then snow and rain but having seasons.

Hi dawn
I bet that was something to see. I think you said that you never get snow there. Oh wait did you move during the night and forget to tell everyone..LOL..
We got some snow here on saturday. Almost an inch but it too melted off the roads real fast and the ground within a couple of hours. If the back roads here get the least bit of snow on them they will cancel school that day.
Have fun today and keep smiling.

Hi Dawn,
How i wish we have snow here in our country but no we don't have. WE live in a tropical country and we only have two seasons here--rainy and sunny. Right now we're in the sunny season after all the typhoons. I am excited to see the snow photos. I experienced snow two years ago when i was in washington, dc. i had fun and took some pictures too while playing in the snow!

Snow is fun to play in, but I wouldn't want to live in it for more than a day or two. I'm a warm weather baby. :-)

Yep I am as far south as orange county and it is just pouring rain here but it is so cold out side. It has not really been cold yet this year and then the rain started and now it is freezing. We are not having any snow maybe way up in the mountains but not here. I love the Rain I am from Texas so I miss it now that I live in SoCal. We needed the rain I just wish it wasn't freezing rain. Oh well gonna go make some Hot Coco now

While it does rain (or snow) occasionally in California, the thing is people don't know how to function when it does either one. Since I lived somewhere it rained all the time, I can function in it, but I HATE it. It also floods here very easily because the ground doesn't soak up the water and we don't have storm drains at every intersection. If it rains an inch, it actually rains AN INCH, or MORE and it's standing water.
It snowed a little here but I don't think school will be cancelled for us. The snow has already melted, it didn't even stick here.

Ah yes, nothing like driving around LA in an El Nino year. At least I knew which intersections to avoid!

It is hot here, darn hot! It is so hard to relate to snow and schools being closed! Aside from the fact that it is summer here, it never snows where we are because we are on the coast. In Australia is does snow on the other side of the country which is around 3500 kilometres from here so we won’t be going skiing any time soon! I wish we did have snow...When we lived in Italy we were on the coast as well but it did occasionally snow there; it used to be so exciting, we would all run outside and play in it! I guess it is unusual where you are too, enjoy working from home...

What you imagined to be a bit of snow could get into inches of snow in which case getting back from school would pose a problem. Keeping this in view the authorities might have taken this decision as nowadays weather predictions go haywire. Prevention is better than cure is what the authorities had in mind I guess. The principle would apply even here where ofcourse there is no snow but incessant rains with thunder and lightning could prompt the authorities to act likewise.

They closed the entire school district. We are at the lower end elevation wise, but at the higher end they did get a bit (5 - 6 inches) more than we did.
