How would you like to be remembered?

I have worked with a lot of people in my role as a youth leader and preacher and have encountered the topic of significance more times than I could ever begin to count from young and old alike. The truth about life is that we all want our lives to matter; we want to leave something special behind for our family and friends to remember us. There are individuals in our families that just a mention of their names conjure up memories of greatness, love, compassion, power, strength, integrity, etc. We will all leave behind a testimony, whether it is good or bad; people will remember us. How would you like people to remember you once your earthly life is over? Personally, there are several ways that I would love to be remembered. First and foremost, I would like to be remembered as a person who loved and served God no matter the consequences. I would also like to be remembered as a great husband and father, a great preacher, writer, teacher, musician, and artist. I want people to remember my positive attitude and my sense of humor. How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as a person who was kind to the elderly, women and kids and those in need. I like to help people and make them happy, i want to be remembered as a nice and kind person. Also, i'd like for people especially my family and friends to remember me as a generous person who loves people.

Thanks for your response! Generosity and kindness are great things to be remembered for and will outlast any kind of wealth or power that can be accrued during our lives here on earth. There are so many opportunities to help people of all ages, especially in difficult economic times. Sometimes we think that we can't really do anything that would matter, but I have found it's the small things that make the biggest impact! It may not seem very significant to say hello, offer a warm smile, handshake, or hug, but those things will often be remembered more than anything else. The big thing is for us to be aware of the people around us and be sensitive to their needs.

I want to be remembered as some one that can find humor in anything, some one that is always laughing. I want to be remembered as some one that can make others laugh and cast light on any situation. I don't want to be a comedian as my profession, I just want to do it in life. Humor is a very good healing process, and can make anyone feel better. Laughing is the medicine for the soul.

Humor is always a good thing. I think humor can be found in anything really. What would our lives be without laughing? I can't even imagine..

When I am gone from this world. I would like to remembered for the kind of person I was. I would not want to be remembered for achievements. Celebrating the person is what it is all about.

Hi scottcoleson,
After I die, or when I'm retired and hardly anyone knows I exist, I would have liked to be remembered as someone famous, honourable, important and had a major impact on someone's life, obviously being something good. In simple terms, after I die I would like to be remembered as if I was the King of England or the president of The United States or Michael Jackson for that matter! I just want everybody worldwide to think of me and remember me and tell their kids about me after I'm gone.
Pretty impossible thing to do, but that's the idea.

Having people worldwide remember you is quite the goal, but I would not say that it is impossible! Look at all the individuals who have gone before us years (or even centuries) ago that we still remember for the things they did. I believe you mentioned something great as one of the things you wanted to be remembered for: making an impact on someone's life. If we all set out to make an impact on at least one person during our lifetime, I think that this world would be a completely different place in the next generation. That kind of devotion to helping someone else, showing them love, care, and compassion would breed more of the same toward others. Thanks for your response

I would liked to be remembered as someone who was happier more than she was sad, laughed more than she cried, and didnt complain when things got tough. I would like to be remembered more than anything as someone who helped others despite not always being able to help herself, but also to be able to help those she had never met before. I would like to be remembered for a member of the armed forces who put her life before the lives of others to fight for something that others dont or cant fight for themselves. I would like to be remembered as a good friend, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, girlfriend and one day wife and mother.

Thank you for your service in the armed forces. Your sacrifice (and those who serve and have served with you) makes it possible for us to have many of the things that we have today! My brother was a paratrooper with the Army for nearly 10 years and my nephew is currently serving in the Army. Your response captures the entire essence of what I was looking for when I asked the question. Life is full of its ups and downs and sometimes it's just chaotic, to say the least. But we will be remembered for how we reacted to both the good and bad times.

I would like people to remember me as someone who they could always trust and who was a good listener. I have made many mistakes in my life and I hope people remember me as the kind of person who doesn't pretend they never happened, I admit to them fully and have grown so much because of them. I want to be the best I can be and make a difference in other peoples' lives. I want to inspire people and help them deal with things like anxiety, depression and OCD. I'm glad I've had to deal with some of these things, because it helps me relate to so many different kinds of people. I wouldn't change it for the world.

for me, just being the best person I could be, kind to others, understanding of differences in people and embracing them. Remembering that it only takes one person to break a cycle of ugliness and injustice. How I look at all people ... we ALL have the same color hearts.

Well if your referring to the end of this life, I'd like to be remembered as a kind caring fun loving person who had strong personal principals while still keeping and open mind and heart, I want to be remembered as the true person I am someone who's strong and loyal. but I must say that I hope that by the time my life ends that I've left some sort of positive mark on the world with my talents and found some kind of fulfillment in my life. but most of all I hope that before leave this earth that the people I love are safe and well and that I was able to live life to its fullest in the end.
With that said I hope that the end dosent come before I've had the chance to do all or at least some of the things I've wanted and dreamed.
