I think it's part of some social norms about "men" and "women." It has something to do with the way "boys" and "girls" were raised as kids and young adults. If we see our daughter crying, most likely we would hug her and say "it's ok baby." But if we see our sons crying, most likely we would ask him to shut up and say "hey, act like a man...stop crying." I'm not a psychology graduate or something, but that's how I observed it in most families. And I believe this difference in treatment has a big impact on a man/woman as he/she grows up. As a girl/woman, a person might think that it's ok to cry when there are problems, pains or heartaches. As a boy/man, the person might think that it's NOT manly to cry when experiencing problems, pains and heartaches.

hmm...yup...when I was small my father always told me not to cry. So, I always not to cry in front of people. It will make me feel shame.

Crying is a weakness, it means "HELP ME". Men feel strong enough to deal with the problem without needing help. Most of the time crying is nothing more than annoying and only makes things worse. Men do express their feelings but there's no need to cry over everything. LOL

I think that men should cry if they feel they need to, it is a much positive way to release pain and stress than other things they turn to, like yelling and taking it out on other people or drinking, etc. I think sensitivity in men is very attractive, and I wish more were like that. There are stereotypes and "rules" that say men can't cry, but I certainly don't agree with them. I say they should cry and don't stop till they are all cried out, that's what I do, they should have that release as well.
