Adopting Cats

I find something so rewarding in adopting animals. Growing up, I've seen so many homeless animals and it just breaks my heart. I would love if I was capable of adopting them all, and making sure they have long lives, but I know it's impossible. Not too long ago, my cat passed away and I was on a mission to adopt another cat. This time around I really lucked out. The Seattle Humane Society is giving away all cats over the age of one. With the economy how it is, it was great to be able to get one for nothing. Now I have some extra money to help with food and possible vet visits. Has anyone else adopted cats? If you have pics, I would love to see them!

I have several pics of my oldest cat Precious. I need to e-mail the other pictures to my photobucket from my phone later and post them. I've already posted several pictures of Precious on this catagory. However, that is beside the point of this topic. I shall try and attach one of the pictures to this reply though.
Through my life my mother was an animal lover. She was more of a cat person then anything else. However, aside from the birds, our next largest supply of pets were the dogs and cats. For a while it was almost a compitision to see who could out rank the other in number. Though even though we had seven dogs at one time my mother and I seemed to love the cats.
I remember one year My parents were reading the paper. Our local shelter had taken a cross-eyed cat in. My mother instantly fell in love with the idea, and wanted to get the cat for me. So my dad took us to the shelter and when they showed us the cat in question, the cat in the cage below her kept trying to get my attention. In fact her paw caught on my shirt she wanted my attention that much. Well, we told my dad and he inssisted that we get both.
needless to say we came home with two cats that day. I could hardly believe it.

That's awesome that you went home with two cats :) Don't you love when you get an unexpected surprise?
I'm excited to see the pics that you post later. I will see if I can't find some of my cat as well.

First of all, I'm sorry you lost your cat:( I know how it feels to lose a beloved pet!! And grats on the new kitty cat!
And I feel the same way, I wish I could save all the animals!! I would LOVE to start an animal sanctuary...that would help me save a lot. But I really have to get more 'real world' experience before I can do something like that (not to mention money!) lol
I haven't adopted a cat recently...but in Nov of 2004 I found my baby!!!:D She was outside my house...over a year old and probably weighed no more than 1 pound...Here she is now...

It makes me sad seeing homeless pets and pets that the owners obviously couldn't care less about. My family and I adopted a cat earlier this year in January. One day this small black and white kitten showed up at our house. It was at the edge of the driveway behind our garbage can.
We didn't really think anything of it. People's pets kind of tend to roam around where I live. When it seemingly disappeared, that was that or so we thought. Later on, that cat was in our back yard in a corner shaking and barely able to meow. So of course we felt sorry for it and fed it. It seemed like it could barely eat but it did anyway.
Almost a year later, that cat still lives with us and we're attached lol.

I love animals in general and I think it's great that you adopt them. There are so many animals out there that are in need of a home and it takes people like you to help these animals survive. I do have a rescue dog that I adopted a couple of years ago. Her paws had never touched the grass before we got her. She is so happy now and she deserves it. Thumb's up friend

I adopted a Dauchshund (I hope I'm spelling that right lol!!) a while back and he was the same, he had never been outside. I felt so bad for him first being stuck at the breeders, and then in a cage and not being treated very well at this little pet shop. I think it really affected him in a negative way, because he was always skiddish and would flinch when you raised a hand near him. I felt so bad when I'd go to pet him because he was always so nervous about it. He also had a bladder problem. He would pee all over when he got scared, so it was hard to get close to him. I recently had to get rid of him and he has a GREAT home now. The family who bought him is pretty rich and they have two houses. They take him on trips to the beach etc. It's cute. They send me pix from time to time. I'm so happy for him! He lives with a few other dogs, so he loves it.

hey reina,
that's good there's a lot of cats out there who got used to be being out side and wandering around the place. you know that's alright since they don't want them to die in the streets or being squash by a truck.

I've seen many stray cats laying on the side of the road.. it's really upsetting. I hate that the humane society charges you like $70, last I heard, to pick up a stray cat :( I just don't have that kind of money. I wish I did.

My other half is a cat lover (as am I); she adopted two cats, and they are the sweetest creatures I ever knew!
One was from a large litter and had dodgy eyes, but scampered up the wall and hid on the roof when she went to look - she picked him for his energy, but now he's very old and slow!
The other is a rescue cat. She's gorgeous - I don't understand why anyone would want to ditch her...
I'll upload pics if I can find the lead to connect my phone to the laptop!

That's great that she adopted cats. It's so interesting how, no matter how many cats I meet or own, they all have their own little personality. It's the cutest thing!
I don't understand why people would ditch their cats either. I have seen so many stray cats over the years and it breaks my heart. If only we could save them all..
