working at night

It has been a month that I am employed in my new job. Work is fine because it is related to the course I took in college. The salary is all right. But the time I need to be in work seems to be a problem. I need to be at the office from 10 o'clock in the evening up to 6 o'clock in the morning.
My friends told me that my work is not healthy because I am no longer sleeping at night the way one should normally do. But you see I sleep from 8 o'clock in the morning up to 3 or sometimes 4 in the afternoon. My friends sometimes even scare me saying that I will develop a number of illness if I stick to my job. But I have not been sick yet for the duration of my first month at work.
What should I do? What should I say to my friends?

u tell to your friend that working in night shift is much better in morning shift.. u tell him that in night shift person in charge are not very strict in work. usually in my past experience we have no boss, we can do whatever we want even sleeping if there's no work.

hello prodigaljuneau... indeed, our boss during the night shift is lenient as compared to the boss at day shift. Our boss allows us to eat in our cubicle even during working hours and we can play some music as we work unlike in the day shift where no one is allowed to eat unless it is breaktime nor play music.

lots of people work during the night and sleep during the day there is nothing wrong with that. but if you personally have an issue with it, then you should reconsider your decision to carry on with this job. otherwise, dont listen to what anyone says and do what your heart says.

I know many people that work on night shifts, and they don't have any more health problems than day workers do! The whole medical field has night workers, there are many, many that work at night!
Truck drives do a lot of their driving at night!

You do what you have to do as far as working, I'd prefer to find an overnight job but their difficult to find. I use to always work regular morning/early night shifts but right now I'm unemployed. I think you'll be fine, you are sleeping and just sleeping according to your work schedule. Everyone wants to have some time to themselves before they go to work so waking up at 3pm and having to be at work for 10pm isn't that bad. You don't want to sleep up until a half hour before you have to be at the office, if that's the case you'd never get anytime to yourself or any errands, etc done.
Your friends care, which is good but everyone needs to work to make money and pay the bills, if the pay is well and you enjoy it than stick with it. Jobs are very hard to come by right now with this economy, I've been out of work since November of 2007 and was unable to get benefits so I'd love to have your job right now, also considering that's the schedule I'd like to have.
I use to have to work 4:30am until 1-1:30pm, even 5pm sometimes when I worked at McDonalds a number of years ago, I use to take something to fall asleep so I'd be able to be up at 3:30am for work, just a regular over the counter sleep aid. It worked fine for me and I got the sleep I needed but it's not for everyone. If your really concerned about your health and what you may develop because of your sleep habits than consult your doctor, I would say that's the best thing you can do.

Hello. i think you appear to like your job. your friends are saying to you that your job isn't healthy being that it is at all night. how about you. how do you feel about your job at night. the answer to this question will give you your answer. i would tell my friends how You feel about your job and that this is what you want for now. Your friends aren't your life and can't live your life so that is why the question is totally up to you. All the Best.

I don't agree that working the night shift is dangerous to your health. As long as you're able to sleep during the day without interruption, your body is getting the rest it needs. People travel all over the world which makes it necessary to adjust to different time zones. The body can reset it's internal clock in a day or two. It sounds like yours has adjusted and that you're not having any problems with the new sleep schedule so it makes no sense that you would develop a number of illnesses. As far as what to say to your friends, my suggestion would be to thank them for their concern and to tell them that you are sleeping just fine during the day so you don't anticipate any health problems because of your new schedule.

There are lots of people who work the night shift and do not get ill. You are getting between 7 and 8 hours of sleep a day. If you are not feeling ill then maybe you are getting enough sleep. Tell them you like the job and are doing fine if you start getting sick from working nights you will see if you can change your hours. Not everyone has to sleep at night you can sleep during the day. You may not see them as much because of your schedule is that why they do not want you to work at night.

My advice is don't engage yourself with other endeavors while in night schedule, like still going out after work or even trying to always be infrot of the pc, playing with games or going online. Because, you need all the rest. Just continue to eat healthy foods and don't skip meals, coz you need all the energy you can get.
Try to drink vitamins coz it will just boost your stamina. And always stay happy and contented, becuase if you don't you will get stressed and if it happens then you might end up getting sick.
Chances are, it is still you who will decide on what to do. Don't let anybody get in your way. Your freinds are just here to give an advice.
