what can you say about this topic and question?
We all know that people nowadays are very dependent on computers and internet, actually, at this present time, computers are now much of a need than wants. Computers are invented and build to help people's lives to be much easier than before. But we all know that computer also have some side effects to humans. There are lots of side effects and i think all of use knows it. But why still do people are being dependent on computers and internet?
I really do not know, cause i myself is also dependent on computers and internet, in fact i am an addict, on computers and internet.
What if, something happened and all the computer in the world, just crashed? What will you feel and what do you think will happen in this world?
Computers have lots of uses, but also have lots of side effects, but, computer is also a need in this world.
What can you say about this topic, and what is your opinion on this?
Anyone who wants to respond are free to express their feelings and points of views, I, the writer of the topic, is very much open to accept feed back and criticisms.

Most of all are dependent in internet & computers but not all knows how to use a computer especially those living from the third world countries for their means of living are farming. They are busy with what they can earn for the day in order to be able to eat & met the needs of their family.

Well i think i will only agree with you in the first part of your statement, but mostly disagree when you said that "not all knows how to use a computer specially in the third world country". I think you are wrong with that, i am a Filipino and i live in a country called Philippines, i believe that our country is a third world country, and 80% of the population knows how to use computers and the 20% of which as studying on how to use it, i think all people knows how to use it, the problem is that, they just do nit know how to repair it or trouble shoot it if there is a problem. I am not saying that you are discriminative, but for it sounds like it is. Computers and Internet in our country are being used to all kinds of work and businesses including farming, my grandmother have a hundred acres of farm and lots, we use computers to communicate with the farmers, because we cannot walk just to know what and how are they doing. We also use computer to compute detect the climate and compute the growth of the crops. Even our maids know how to use a computer, and even my 3 year old son knows how to operate a computer, then i guess, it is really hard for us if computers will just be gone in this world. Our business and everything will be gone. Most of my friends earn money online, but we are in the third world. Who created the ILOVEYOU virus? It is a Filipino, and he came from a third world country. Even in squatters area here in our country, have computers, and they know how to use it. Our farmers uses the computers to measure the exact amount of fertilizers that they will need to use in the crops. Everythng in our farm is computerized. What can you say about that?

You might be referring the majority of luzon but I am talking about here in the Visayas area most sugarcane farmers here are only living in the nipa hut & has 16 -18 children which were not able to finish even in grade school majority of the people here doesn't care about computers and are only busy of how to make money in order to feed 16-18 mouth a day with only Php120.00 most of the children are not even able to finish grade school because they just encourage them to work at a very young age 10 to help met the needs of the family. SO I am not being descriminating I am talking about reality which I see in our meighborhood so next time if you are asking for opinion do not look only up the area which are you from for you never know the status of the state of living of those people in Visayas & Mindaonao.

i think i have control on my mind and senses and i have prepared for all kind of consequences after all every thing in this world is not permanent. If we are ready to accept the truth that our aged parents would die some day then why cant we accept the truth that computers would become extinct some day or the other or they would rule us for sure if we are so dependent on them coz people has an general tendency to pass on work to their team members and try to enjoy themselves rather than completing it for themselves and this is major concern with computers coz if every thing is being done by an robot then humans would become more lazy.one fine day if these computers fail to work like y2k problem then every thing is gone and loss would be unimaginable and every one would repent for being so dependent on them.
you might think that i am nuts but i have said the fact and its upto you take the truth rather than being disguised by the current features the computers provides and and I am not against computers and i spend some 6-7 hours in front of my pc.i just tried to come the other way around.hope you enjoyed this response .gud day.

Hi Sunnycool,
Congratulations for receiving that BR. You deserve it. You expressed your point so well. At least you are flexible enough to face any changes that might occur. AS what we Filipinos also do--being so resilient in facing reality in life. Cheers friend!

Well I would not say that my life depends on my computer but its defintly a handy tool that has helped me in a lot of ways, and I would defintly not want to be without my computer or a computer. with that said, I Think that we should try and keep things in prospective and not put so much dependence and personal info on our computers if we can avoid doing that and remember whats important and also remember that our computers can be a bit dangerous if not used correctly, if we remember the important things in life, and try and do what we can to stay safe all an all computers are a very helpful handy tool. but to answer your question yes I agree that its not good to put so much dependence on our computers.

Hi RJ,
At this point in time it will be very hard for us to accept the fact that we can go back to basic and to the classic type doing what computers can do for us. it will be a great adjustment for all of us and waste of time. Computers make our lives so easy...very practical and quick. I am so thankful that we have computers but if that will happen i can still work with it... being a Filipino, we are resilient and can adjust to even the worst scenario.
to be honest i am so dependent with computers and the net!

let's not make this happen of going back to basic instead let's all move froward. more innovations, something with positive effect and impact to people and to our younger generation. however, we need to respond to the issue of computer use and computer game addiction among our teenagers nowadays.

You are right about that, Filipinos are very unique and we also know how to live in any places, environment and whatever situation we may have, that is why i am proud being a Filipino. But just like you, i am also afraid of those things would come, and i hope will not.
I am also very dependent on computers and internet. My businesses are also dependent on computers.

The 21st Century is one huge technology dependant nation on a global scale, i was only born in early 1993 so do not know much else, although i have noticed that from even five years ago we are 10x more dependant on technology and the rate at which new gadgets and products are produced is terribly quick, so quick that by the time you get your hands on an expensive product its already out of date.
Reverting back to what i said about us being a technology dependant nation i believe we are both in this situation for Needs and wants, however i agree that the needs side of it is starting to dominate, with most job sectors needing at least basic computer and internet skills, and many things becoming online to make the transactions faster.
If we was to go back to a period of time with no technology what so ever which i believe could happen sooner than we think due to the non renewable power we are burning out at such a huge rate, i believe many would have a very hard time adapting, myself included.
Also in the want side of it, the internet is a success due to making people a little bit of extra cash, meeting new people, sharing ideas, connecting on a global scale, entertainment, expressing theirselves, and the annoymonity you can have lets people be who they want to be.
I use the internet for both sides and for many hours a week, i really enjoy the uses the internet provides, and so yes i would struggle without a computer even though i know its not actually needed for survival.
However the world is always been evolving and we have adapted to new changes, therefore yes i do think it is right that we can depend on computers to A CERTAIN EXTENT.
good topic

Very nice response and i like it. You are right about all the things that you pointed out. And yes, the whole world are now being consumed by the technology which i think, is little by little destroying it. It will really be hard for people to cope up, including me, if those things happens, i just hope it will not. Thank you for a very good response and have a nice day.

This is a good topic to discuss about. Actually i agree in most of your opinions and i am also a computer and internet user. Most of my works depends on computer and internet. Though computer and internet has made so small that we can get information about anything in a single clik but still theres a lot of side effects of it. But still now i cannot think a world without computer and internet because i think its also one of the basic need of us.

No, it is not right to completely depend on the computer, and I know people who are completely hooked on the internet. They live their enter life on the computer, and it is sad. I don't know how people can live their whole life on the internet?

I thought about that a lot. While my kids were young, I decided they needed to learn to take care of a garden and other things that they might need later in life. Some times I think we are forgetting how to make and do things and there might come a day when knowing a lot about a computer may mean nothing at all.
It is hard for me to stay away from the computer, I have the internet on my phone and if I can't get to the computer, I use my phone.
most of us will probably end up with bad eyes and carpal tunnel.

Wonderful response my dear, you are right about that, we people forgot to do things that is really much more important and much more good to do than being with computers all day. And i am also afraid that there may come a time that our knowledge on computers will be really much useless.

In my side, its important because my love ones are far away and it let me contact anytime I want no like the past few years, long distance calls are way too expensive. Also internet and computer is really helpful and any kinds of things.I think being dependent in it is not that really bad as long there is still balance of what we do.

Unfortunately we don't have too much choice these days. Where I'm from, you have to be able to access a computer to apply for a job. The employers no longer keep physical copies for you to fill out with a pen. There there are parents like me who are divorced and don't have the other parent in our childrens lives who probably greatly benefit from the internet because it allows us to make money from home and avoid the expenses of babysitters and the hassle of finding someone who you can trust to watch your child in the first place.

You are right, there are lots of companies right now, who are already using computers only in their recruitment process. They do not keep record anymore and they directly put it on computers, and it is also easier for the bosses to see and read the applications immediately, wherever they maybe. Have a nice day.

Well I dont think that we should allow computers alone to determine all aspects of our lives .I think their should be a system wher humans will always have the final say to pull the plug in case computers start to take over all aspects of our lives liek in the movies .However once computers are programmed ,they are usually quite reliable and shouldnt fail even when humans fail but the best system is one in which computers do the work while humans oversee

You are right about that, cause computers are really only the tools for development and we are the humans to use it. We need not to depend so much cause if something bad really happens, i guess it will be difficult for us. But the sad truth is that, at present we are all being consumed by technology, even if we admit it or not.

Of course not, although some of us really base on the computer because of earning, and work. We shouldnt let our self be dependent woth latest technologies because we used to live without it, we are just dependent because they make our work easy.

Very goo answer junmae, we are just dependent because it makes our work easier and comfortable. Thank you, i have another reason to tell my friends why i am hooked in computers. Anyway, knowing the fact that it is making our life easier, i think if all computer crashes, people will really have a difficulty on going back to bsaics, because at present, people are used to doing easy things than harder ones that is most likely being done in the past. Have a nice day.

Hi. I don't think we have to depend our lives so much on computers and internet. For me, computers and internet provide us access to different types and forms of entertainment, socialization, information, resources, and earnings.
However, we should not limit ourselves to these technologies. Personal interaction with other people from the outside world is still the best source of entertainment, socialization, information, resources, and earnings. I believe that this is the most stable and long-lasting resource for the human race.

Hello rj,
You are so right that people are so very dependent on their computers and internet, especially big business.
It would definitely be life altering should suddenly the internet crash.
The World, as a whole would have much cleaning up and recovering to do.
However, I feel that in some circumstances, that perhaps some would not be able to recover their data.
Computers make our lives and the work of business so much more easier and efficent so perhaps why the dependency,
I think that if this truly happened, where all the computers in the world crashed, some things would come to a screaming halt. We would all have to start all over from scratch. Those who have never used a computer ever before would be somewhat okay but their lives would still be effected as well since most businesses, banks etc, use computerized systems.
It is not a bad idea to retain an old way of doing things I suppose. Such as paper, pen and filing cabinet. In the meantime, try to mold our lives so that we are as less dependent on computers as humanly possible.
Addictions are something else. It is easy to become addicted to the internet. If there were no internet, would you still be on your computer? I know I am but sometimes less than I am if I do have internet.
So are you addicted to computers alone or more the internet itself?
I felt that I was "addicted" once. It is amazing the scope of things online. To be able to power on and go online is truly a gift of technology.
I have to be really disciplined in order to be able to be online but still get my day to day tasks and work done. It'd be so easy to be online 24X7, with short breaks to sleep, shower & eat but hazardous, to anyone.
There are many people who are internet/computer addicts.
Discipline is the key so to not go down hard, should the computer break or there be an internet melt down.
@rjvb26 (2518)

That is perfectly correct. Discipline is still the key, that is why sometimes, i am trying to discipline my self, although it is hard for me, cause i am an internet addict, i see to it that, it will be a hell of a disciplinary tactics to myself so that i will be able to work without computers and with only the present resources.

Computers and the internet help process information and increase communications. It is better and that is why we can't let it go. What happens if it all crashes. I just had a major crash on my computer. It seems a recent microsoft update, turned my computer into a mess.Nothing would work. When things happen, we all pick up the pieces, fix the problem and move on. We can never give up progress and the things that make life better.

Hello rjvb,
This is the new era, modernization goes with technology, and so with life on the fast lane.
Even if computers are not invented or let's say...less computer from our home use,the side effects of too much radiation can't be avoided.
Almost all gadgets now are emitting radiation that causes side effects.
Can you imagine offices using the old typewriter models..what do you think would happen with processing our papers.
Even with the new computers and even the fast usage of computers, the papers processing still needs sometime to be done, what more with the old models typewriters.
If ever computers all over the world would crashed...well,we will be back to normal(if it can't be repaired anymore)
Back to basic, and back to the ages, manual works and slow paced of life.
@rjvb26 (2518)

You are right about that, if it cannot be repaired, which is i think impossible. We all need to go to basic, and i think it will be hard for us people. Basic are very easy to do, but the problem is, it is very hard to go back to basics and cope up with the present era.

hello there rjvb,
i think this is really happening now towards the entire society, it's hard to believe but true.I, myself is also dependent on internet but i think that changed a little bit when my computer just crashed and later my brother fix it after a month.
during that time i spent more in helping out in the house, playing with my cat and being busy in my small business. i don't it's healthy to be too much dependent on technology here.

Just like you, i am also addicted to computers, especially computers with internet, i also have the same story as you, when our internet is not available due to a glitch in the ISP company, i feel like, i do not want to sit in a place for even a second, and then, i realize that i just need to do something so i will not get bored. Then i help do the household chores and i play with our 4 dogs, 1 dalmatian, 1 Labrador, 1 chihuahua and 1 pincher with hair LOL! That was really crazy..

i know where you are coming from, but i agree that "the world" really do rely on computers these days but as a single individual you do not only the bussiness itself relys on the computer. i could(i think) live a life without one, and be able to travel and see the real deal instead of looking at it on a computer screen haha
