I would say Chinese or Japanese. A friend of mine tried to learn Japanese and said it was very diffucult. But I have always wanted to know what English sounds like to people who cant speak it. I wonder how hard it is for someone to learn english?

Greek for the tenses. But Mandarin is more difficult for conversation.

I personally observe that it is not the language but ur approch and interest is the important thing.Secondly If you get people(I mean enviorment) to speak that language than it is easy to learn. But if u r learning a laguage that none of ur known person know that language then it is difficult to learn. So it is not the laguage but the factor how make the laguage easy or hard to learn

Yes, Chinese is difficult only because of the tones. In English we don't have to worry about tones so it is strange for us to have to do this. Otherwise, I thought learning Chinese was fairly easy.
Thank you for the reply!

A friend of mine says Chinese is the hardest for him; there are so many characters and you can't figure them out naturally from looking at them, as you can with the romance languages or other languages in the regular alphabet. Also different characters in Chinese can mean different things depending on how they are pronounced.

I like this question. My native language is French, but I am also fluent in Italian, Spanish, and English. When I was in school I thought the hardest language was German but I definitly changed my mind when I decided to study Chinese. I was completely lost. I changed courses after two weeks. Instead I took Swedish which was much more easier for me. I kind of regret not putting more effort into it but it was just too difficult. :)
