Hi, friends. Sometimes when I can't find anything interesting here and there is no discussion which I can responding I am searching for discussions. I found some discussions which are interesting for me, but they are so old - like six months, or year old... I wonder Do you think it's OK to responding to a discussions which are so old?

It is perfectly ok and the original poster will probably be very happy that you did as you will revive it for them and if they are still active here then they might even come and comment back to you You see that column on the right Those are discussions with similar tags to the one you have open and they display the discussions with the most recent activity. If you post on an old discussion it will reappear in that column when other discussions with similar tags are open and others would see it too. If it is interesting then many others might respond so go ahead. Wherever you post you will be earnings nomatter how long ago the discussion was started

There are many interesting topics in the older discussions and no reason at all why we should not keep them going. If you look at the browser when you have a discussion open, you will see the number. That is the number of the discussion when it was originally posted. The total number now is well over 2 million. Assuming, but I very much doubt it, that half have been deleted, that STILL leaves over one million discussions out there awaiting our attention. That's one heck of a lot!!!

Hey, Diana, thank you for the tip! Your advices are always helpful and useful!!! I didn't knew that. Yes, you are right that if the original poster is still active on 'My Lot' then he/she will be very happy.

Thank you for taking time to point that out. I always forget about the earning part of this site, it really doesn't figure in to the discussions for me..I was just thrilled to find some fellow hockey lovers to talk to and then ventured out further finding even more that sucked me in.

i sure hope it is..I just this morning responded to one that was 4 years old. I didn't realize it until my response had posted and I couldn't take it back I felt a little silly after I saw how old it was, but oh well, I couldn't take it back.

I do have my notifiers on. As long as I didn't do anything wrong I'm good..It was Christmas related and I didn't even think to look at when it had been started. It's just a little embarassing when you mess up in front of everyone.

When I found a old discussion which was interesting I though that it's stupid to post there, because probably no one will read my post or maybe if someone read it, he will say: 'Isn't there enough good discussions for post, why she post at this old discussion..' So I Didn't post there, but then I came back and post there, because I think there is no matter if discussion is old or not - if it's interesting for me - I got to respond there.

I personally feel that it's fine to respond to an older post, that way it can be revived and maybe other people will have something to add as well. I do this a lot. Especially when I'm going through my interests and nothing new has been posted for a long time. Another idea would be to maybe create your own new discussion related to that topic or whatever, but maybe add something to it so it isn't the exact same topic. Either way, I don't see how it could hurt to bring back a discussion that has been lost in time.

Definitely, a lot of people do just go ahead and start a new discussion, and that is great too, especially if the other similar discussions are really old or really long, sometimes it is easier to create a new one. I created one today that was similar to another in an interest, but the only one I found similar was quite old, so I decided to just go for it and start a new discussion to hopefully get people who have the interest.

Hi Greys. Yes, responding to an older discussions can revived it and new My Lot-ters can respond in there too. I think most of Mylotters prefer to start a new one discussion with the same question or theme - but not to post on the old one.

Yes, sometimes there maybe similar to your discussion, but the answers that the other members are giving are not that useful for you. So in that case better to post your own discussion with the hope to get the right answers from which you need.

No problem at all and you can enjoy it anytime. Previously, in a month I replied to DWNR (Discussion With No response) which more than a year old. There are many quality posts discussed about politics and national issues. This type of discussion, normally, gets no response because not many members like to respond to 'hard' question. The best thing is our reply be the 'first' responder, always on top.

Hi Kompita, it is absolutely fine reviving old discussions. If you find you like the way a certain person writes you can find old started discussions in their profile which can be a lot more interesting than the current stuff, and they well be pleased to have it revived again, as your comment will put it back into the lists.

Yes, the original poster will be happy that I am reviving the discussion, but only if the poster is still active on 'My Lot'. Now I know for sure that every time when I feel bored here I can go on some old discussions and respond there.

There have been a few very old discussions that I've responded to simply because you shouldn't use a discussion that has been used in the past. Therefore, before I start a discussion of my own, I try to look up the basic idea of the discussion and see if anyone has started a similar discussion in the past. When I do pull up a discussion that is like one that I've thought about starting then I will comment on it. It seems like about half the time I will get a response on my comment and half the time I will not. However, by doing it that way I feel like I am doing things the way that they are meant to be done.

Dorannmwin, that is exactly what we are supposed to do. Another thing that some people do, especially if it is an older discussion that the original poster has not responded back on, is respond to other people's comments on it. Not only does that revive an older discussion but also people get to talk about the topic that they were interested in, even though the original poster abandoned the discussion or did not have time to reply to it once they started it. That way, you can have quality discussions about your topic idea, even if you can't start the discussion yourself.

It is a lot more fun when they do join in, though, especially on their own discussions, as you can clearly see by this one.

Not only that, but you might learn something about a new friend and have a lot of fun interacting with them at the same time. Then, when you see them responding on other discussions, you might decide to pop into their response box to say "hi" or add something to their comment that might keep the discussion going or even take it in a new and interesting direction. By the way, hi Gabs. It is nice to see you on the boards more. I hope you and Gissi are doing well.

Yeah I think its fine to respond to a discussion that is months or even years old. In fact I think that being able to respond to posts that may be that old is something good that myLot has going for it over other websites where in their forums moderators or other members of the group may tell them to not post on old topics. After all a topic may of been started months or years ago but people may still be intreasted to read more responses on the topic and maybe people who already replied to the topic may have a new opinion on it.

Good point-someone may of only just discovered the topic and they can then reply on it, even if it's an old one.

Yeah and it's not only that people may have a new opinion, maybe new members who didn't respond to this discussion will want to share their opinion too.

Yes - even if the original poster is not active anymore here - you can give an answers, and after that some members can give a comment-back to you and that is how the discussion can be useful. I think if the discussion is good and interesting, then you can responding there, comment-back to other people and 'give a live' to an old discussion.

Some discussions which are 6-7 months old are fine to respond in. There are some discussions which are older than two years. I had once responded to one such discussion. Later I found that the discussion was removed. It was a proper discussion and nothing wrong with it. However mylot felt that it was too old after I had responded to it. So right now I prefer not to respond to discussions older than one year. In the end its your choice.

My thoughts too KompitaPita. Maybe it just slipped through when it was originally posted. I have seen other old ones removed because they contained violations and they were revived. Some are still up and mention sites that have long since gone. Eventually they will go too I guess.

Diana, I am thinking that too. Maybe the discussion were deleted not because it was an old one discussion. Probably the discussion violates the terms and that is why was removed. Anyway - my advise is keep posting on old discussions.
• Bulgaria
9 Dec 09
Wow, but I don't think that this can be a reason to remove the discussion. Old or not - if everything is OK and the discussion is not violating the FAQ's then why to remove a discussion?

Yes, I do that from time to time. If I remember it correctly, I even had one discussion I responded that was 2 years old. Not sure if the original thread starter saw it or is even active on the site However, it was a topic that interested me and went on to share my opinion.

Hi Abby. Seems posting on an old discussions is OK even if the original poster is not anymore active here, or if he/she didn't comment back to us - it's OK. Maybe we can get comments from other My Lot members who are find the topic interesting and they want to response in this topic too.

Yeah... and I think that there is nothing wrong to response in an old discussions as long as the site is paying to us for what we did and not for what the others did.

The only thing that I have found when responding to older discussions is that you might want to check to see whether or not the person is still active on myLot before you respond to the discussion. You can still respond even if the person is not active, and it will still earn you money for whatever you post. However, I like the back and forth of the discussion, so if the person is no longer active, then they obviously will not be commenting on my response. Therefore, I might choose not to respond to the discussion or if I do comment I will not bother to waste my time checking back for a response. Having said that, I think it is good to respond to older discussion if they interest you. I usually will respond to older discussions from my friends, because I know that they will get back to me. I have also responded to older discussions by users that have caught my eye, and we have had some fun interactions.

Well, I do not check my e-mail very regularly, so I do not check responses based on notifiers. I also have turned a lot of my notifiers off, because it just clogs up my e-mail and I am already bogged down wading through pages of them with the few I have left on. Instead, I just go to the "discussions responded" tab to see whether or not anybody has replied since I have. Besides, I tend to "land on" a lot of responses boxes other than my own, and I do not think we get notifiers to responses that we have made in other people's "boxes" that are commented on. Therefore, I would miss out on a lot of interaction if I did not use the "discussions responded" tab, and since I am there anyway I might as well just use it for everything.

That doesn't bother me - I mean if the person who started the discussion didn't comment-back at me. Why you checking back for response? I am receiving an e-mail every time when I've got comment from someone.

hi Kompita, atleast you thought whether we can respond to older discussions which have been started years back and there is no way to get an comment from them.but i tried to be over smart when i was new here and started an existing one thinking that it was really interesting and everyone would enjoy responding to as well but it has been deleted so what i have learnt is we can restart those but we should have some point to spice it up so that it doesnt seem the older one.gud day.

Personally I see no problem with responding to any discussion no matter how old it is. The purpose of this website is to have lots of meaningful discussions. I do not think when the conversation was started should affect whether it can be commented on.

I have seen some old discussions and thought it was a shame that I hadn't seen those discussions before. I respond to it now and that doesn't matter that I have responded so late. When searching for discussions about a particular topic some old discussions might pop up. The other day I responded to a discussion that had been started two years ago. As long as you enjoy responding to a discussion it doesn't matter how old the discussion is. Although a couple of times I have made the mistake of responding to a discussion twice like in December 2007 and then again in May 2009. So in that case it is 'oh dear'.

Hi Maxi. I think important thing is that you had responded to a discussion. If the original poster didn't see your post and didn't comment back, this is maybe because he is not active here anymore.

I don't think there is anything wrong with posting to an old discussino. The person who posted it won't get credit for it, but other than that there is no reason not to post to an older discussion. Since the discussion will end up back on top of the person who posted its page they will be able to see the response and will probably be happy to see a new response there. At least I would.
