Death Penalty,Punishment or deterrent?

Do you think it serves a real purpose? Is it right? Do we have the right to take someone's life,regardless of the crime? I personally againts death penalty,i agree to lifetime sentences rather than death chamber.It will still prevent the criminals from killing or injuring another person, hanging/shoot them to death is like doing what the criminals are doing. whats your opinion?
