Is there really way to type on a PDF file?

Such as an application for employment. Is it really there just for you to print it and either write on it or put it in a typewriter? It's something that's on your computer anyway. I would someone come up with a program and not make it available to type? And even more, Why would a company use a program like that?

I hate PDF files as I hate Adobe reader for such files. However, I have actually edited PBF files, though if its an application for employment it is recomended you print it regardless as most applications require a hand-written signure. There are places where the application is designed to be done online, but those have their forms anddon't require your signure.
