I can Spell......very embarrassing

Would you believe that I can spell very well. But I do have a problem with my keyboard skills, racing along and making mistakes. Plus, I have been so busy lately that I only give a brief check of my spelling. Im quite embarrassed at my recent mistakes. In my most recent discussion about the shopping nightmare.. actually, I made two mistakes in that one. I found it just as I was loading the disccusion and couldn't delete it.. I know I also made a stupid mistake in last nights discussion, but that discussion was deleted anyway(there are some vindictive people on My Lot). Do you ever make spelling mistakes? How do feel when you discover your mistake after you have started the discussion? Im going to have to really concentrate more so I dont do this again.

Hi. It really happens. Sometimes, it's just typographical errors. When I see my misspelled words, I just hope that other myLotters could understand. And I don't mind seeing misspelled words in other posts or discussions. Nobody is perfect.

hi jennybianca oh I bet we all have done that. I made one and did not see it until I got a private message from the lady that I had made the response to and the awful error in it. I had meant to say I always rate your discussions so highly and instead I typed I always hate your discussions so highly.so she was right in being upset . so I explained that I meant to say rate and did not hit the right key. I told her I was so sorry as I did not mean that at all. she told me then that she understood and we both laughed at my typos. so I have had my goofs. I do have a spelling checker now on mozilla firefox that underlines my typos in red so I can change them before I hit post. thats a real boon as IE did not have that. I did not know your discussion last night got deleted, I thought that I had responded to it but am not sure.

I think you did respond to that deleted discussion, so Im sorry you lost a point. Thats a good idea on firefox, which I havent used for quite some time. I can imagine your embarrassment at the hate/ rate mistake... gee, Im going to have to be far more careful and not rush, its so easy to offend people here.

Hi there hatley, really loved your response. This clearly shows, how a single letter can change the entire meaning.. I can very well imagine your shock, when you received the pm from the particular lady. Do you know this is one of the reasons why most of the agreements the world over are translated in French, because in the French language, the meanings do not change so drastically.

Spelling mistakes are forgivable because there are times where we don't even glance at what we are typing. Grammar mistakes are much harder to ignore than spelling mistakes in my opinion.

This is something I have noticed on My Lotmany times. Im not referring to the people here for whom English is a second language.

You are quite right anne, but English is not my mothers tongue, and it is only my second language. Moreover, we speak in our house in our local language, and English is used only for official purposes. So grammatical mistakes do happen when people who are not very fluent with English post some replies.

Spelling has never been a problem until I try to write here, I have so much to say and so many other things I want to respond to that I get caught up in typing and do serious damage to the belief that I can actually spell. How terrible that is.

I find I make spelling errors often. I used to be a good speller but now I'm not. I don't know why, maybe because I don't work anymore. If I am not sure of the spelling of a word I try to think of some other word to use that I am pretty sure of. I'm sure I probably miss a few. I rely too heavily on the spell check when I send e-mails. I wish I could use that here. I guess you have to have so many points before you can do that. I've even thought of buying a small dictionary to keep by the computer to look up words I can't spell. I try and go through each response to see if there are any errors but I'm sure I miss a lot. Hopefully there aren't any in this response!

I cant find any in this response so you did well. I suspect as people age, spelling is one of the skills that deteriorate. Doing My Lot will keep that part of your brain active.

Getting older probably has a lot to do with not being able to spell as well. I think My Lot will help to keep my brain active and I do crossword puzzles and read a lot. There is even a site that plays games just for people with brain disorders to keep their minds active.

Spelling mistakes in posts are forgiveable and no one really minds them. What matters more is the content in the posts and what makes it interesting. If you are writing an article, then it may be different. Each article is expected to maintain a certain standard and it would be better if you do a spellcheck before you publish it. A post on the other hand is a collection of running thoughts, that is usually typed as you think. So no need to worry too much about it!

I hate to find that I have made mistakes in either spelling or grammar. I do not think I saw your discussion last night. I overlook errors that others make while being very critical of my own. I think that is the case for many of us.

I can spell also but I too, make mistakes when typing on the computer. I get in a hurry also and do not take the time to proofread what I write alot of times because I am always in such a hurry.

That is exactly the same as me. I think it is better to slow down and take more care. In the long run, that will have more benefits.

Hi there jenny, I also make a lot of spelling mistakes, of course my computer points out the mistakes to me, so I make the necessary changes. In spite of this, I usually make some mistakes. It is always better to preview your response before posting them, but I am a little bit lazy in doing it. In the earlier times, I used to feel bad about the spelling as well as the grammatical mistakes which I used to do. But now days, when I see some of the other members starting a discussion, as well as responding I feel, my English is much better when compared to others.

Your English is very good. In my case it's rushing too much, typo mistakes and laziness. I will make a point now of checking more carefully.

All of us have misspelled some words in our life. We are humans prone to commit mistakes but we ca surely minimize by using the spell checker that mylot and other programs can provide. I also made mistakes in the past, and surely will make mistakes in the coming days. But I hope that it will not be that devastating that can affect so much in expressing myself. We are capable of learning and truly as we commit some mistakes, we can learn from them.

You are right in that we can learn from mistakes. And of course I can use the spell checker. Its just that I rush so much; I must slow down.

Hi Jenny, typos at this end, I just type and submit so don't tend to notice them until afterwards. I also did one in a discussion header here once, I can't remember what it was but it stood out glaring at me. I don't worry about it as I know I spell properly and hope when they are spotted that others realise they are just typos. I also presume that others do the same thing. Some people though do make the same spelling errors consistently. I remember there was one banned member who kept signing up new accounts and each time the same spelling errors gave their true identity away. Sorry to hear you got deleted by the way. Just hope it wasn't something you'd put a lot of effort into.

Hi jenny! I can spell well too but being fast upon typing, that's the time that I can make mistakes like you. When I start a discussion, I always check it to see wrong spelled words and correct it before posting, but not when I am responding - I tend to misspell some words at times. But i think it doesn't matter that much since typo error are okay. I have a very bad grammar and added by the rush when typing, (though I tried to correct it)it will end up worst! But good thing is that some users can still understand the message on it.

My grammar is usually good, it's my speed and carelessness that are causing the spelling mistakes. I can understand your response here fine.
