Its been 18 years sence I had a kitten and am having one big problem. Does anyone know how to train or keep them from using house plats as a litter box? Any old housewifes trick out there. Thanks

kittens see plants this way: plant pots= potty. Trees=climbing post/scratching posts. I have given up removing my then kitten Tornado from my plants, and he has succeeded in killing the small pine tree and bamboo shrubs. They say you have to remove their scent from the plant so that they don't use it anymore. Someone suggested chili or peppers, but I haven't tried that.

the vet's office puts chicken wire (large holes) around the plant's pots to make it uncomfortable to step around the plant
Considering they have a GIANT cactus (not to prickly) that they've had for EONS I would say they have succeeded in keeping the office cats from the dirt.

I used to have a cat that tried that..I finally took window screening and cut it to fit over the dirt..he hated it. I could still water the plants. My girlfriend filled hers with aquarium rocks to keep hers out, she killed a plant because she forgot that the stones would hold in more moisture, so if you try the rocks remember to adjust your watering, but the rocks worked to.
Good luck
