We can be a good leader if we're going to be a good follower. That was the first thing to learn in my opinion. Learn how to balance your members' suggestions and be the one to decide without letting your members feel that you were favoring one side. Make them feel free to give their bright ideas.

I suggest you read John Maxwell books. I learned a lot about leadership from that guy.

I was thinking of suggesting Maxwell, I found pinoydeal's post. I will just append my reply here. Yes, I agree. Try read John Maxwell's books on Leadership. I learned them when I entered network marketing business, where we practice leadership everyday. Also try reading Stephen Covey's Principle-Centered Leadership. They are good books to read with regard to learning Leadership. If you don't mind, I also suggest you join training programs of established network marketing companies. They have good leadership training programs.

I guess you should choose between being a leader and a manager. Leader is good, it guides, it listens it leads members on doing the right things. A manager is also good, it leads members from doing the right things right. Now which will you choose?
You can be a leader but not a manager, but you can be a manager at the same time leader.
But i guess, it still depends on the person who will perceive it. But in general it is the meaning of it.
Leaders needs to be cooperative.
Leaders needs to be a good listener.
Leaders needs to be a good guide.
Leaders must know how to play the game of life.
Leaders must be flexible.
Leaders must know how to do the right things.
Leaders must critically think.
Leaders must be a good example.

Leadership is guiding and showing the way for other people and helping them work together to find direction. It is getting people to cooperationand do things. It means you can lead a group!
