Have you ever liked the idea of giving exams? I have always hated the idea. Exams meant a lot of studies, something I have never liked. Next, less time to play or do whatever I wished and lastly, it is an unnecessary burden on one's head. The fact that you have to pass the exams is worse than the exams themselves.
So, do you like to give exams?

I’d really like to meet a person who liked / likes exams..maybe this discussion will throw up one LOL
I so dislike exams that nowadays when I am teaching my son, my own school days memories come to haunt me and I can never be strict with him or make him study more…his final exams are starting on Jan 4th and he’s actually going on a holiday during the Christmas breaks…with his mother’s permission and blessings LOL

Talking about exams of children, my mother used to have these nightmares whenever I had exams. It was pathetic.
One night, she cried out "I know the answer, I know the answer." My poor old mother . Those were the times when she used to teach me and knew the books better than I did. However, now, she does not even take a look at my books, because she cannot understand a single thing and I have been spared those nightmares.

I hate exams, I have always hated them and I still hate them. Written ones a bit less but oral ones were always a terrifying experience for me. When I was in high school I studied regularly and most of the exams were written, but then I went to university and almost all of my exams were oral. It was terrible because I am a perfectionist and I really can't present myself at the exam if I don't know everything. I know so many people who study a bit and then just go to the exam without knowing half of what they should have studied. So it was never easy for me to pass an exam. I was dedicating months to the exams people would dedicate a week or two. I really hated that.

Now that wasn't what I was trying to say. I never hated people who got good grades by studying a bit, I actually think that that's the correct way, I was always mad with myself because I never had ba**s not to study much but still present myself at an exam. That's what I was trying to say. I really don't think that one should study a lot for an exam because no one ever remembers much, so in my opinion there's no much sense in studying a bunch of information when you are going to forget most of them in a 1 or 2 day time.

No, I don't like giving exams. I am no teacher and I don't do the scholarly very well. I think in most cases the burden in my head is such that I would not be able to successfully attempt such a happenstance.

Ya, it just needs to be done and there are ways to go about it. I am sure I could learn if I needed to.

Hi sagnik, do you mean sit exams rather than give them? If you do I was one of those rare oddbods who liked exams if I was interested in the subject matter. I always enjoyed studying too. My ten year old son is the same, he returned from school the other day and said he needed some peace as he wanted to study for his history test the next day. He was looking forward to it and enjoyed it too. That was history though which he loves, just like I did. Just like me he doesn't look forward to tests in physics.

What's wrong with people liking exams for goodness sake. Look at it this way, you are in the school/university system from 4 -21 generally, that's 17 years of study and exams, surely it's better to enjoy them as there are going to be so many of them.
If it makes you hate me lessI really hated physics and netball.

Hi Thea,
You are always optimist, aren't you? That is good. Unfortunately I am not, always, but well everybody is different.
I do not know about netball but I liked physics. I love many subjects. I like Physics, Maths, History and Bengali (that is my mother tongue). But it is the bloody exams that I hate.
And don't worry I simply love your responses. Thank you so much for responding.

I am extremely sorry. As you have very well figured out by now that I am weak in English and make mistakes very often.
Actually, you are the first person to have said that ever. I have never heard anyone say, I like exams. There were some who love to study but still when it came to tests they would have cold feet. It is nice that your son is also like that.
Personally speaking, I hate people who like exams. I HATE THEM.

Do you mean give exams or do an exam?
I used to give very small exams when I was a primary school teacher.
As for doing exams, it's been a long rtime for me. At the end of year 11 and yerar 12 I had tro sdit statewide exams. I dont think I bothered too much in year 11, but by the year 12 exams I was more concerned. I remember studying a lot.
My daughter did her year 11 exams a few weeks ago. For all her subjects she received between 80 and 87%. I was very pleased with those results.

Hi, Jenny
Congratulations to you and your daughter. It is a nice feeling when your children do well in exams.
I meant do or take an exam. Sorry, I am weak in English.
How I wish I would not have to sit for anymore exams! But, I still have to take them, at least for another 3 years.

Nope, I dont like taking them much less giving them. Its hard both ways. For the person who is going to take them, it is quite stressful to study all the topics that might be included. Its even more frustrating if you have studied and memorized the whole book reference given only to find out at the moment of the exam that the questions given doesnt have a possible answer in the book. On the part of the exam giver(usually the teacher or tutor), it would be a different matter on their intentions. I mean if they want their students to pass but still be fair then they'd give either an easier or a very reasonably challenging exam. But if they're power tripping they'd mislead the students into studying a particular topic but give a different topic questions on the actual exam papers. Its a good thing though that there are instances where the student can choose their professors by the time schedule that is posted. I always try and pick those professors that are nice or not strict when it comes to requirements or giving of grades.

Yeah, it most definitely could. Then again, like I mentioned there are some teachers who go on power trips. By doing that they can show the class that no matter how much they misbehave or pull pranks on the teacher, in the end it is up to the teacher to pass them or not, by the kind of exams that they give.

I am sorry again. I should study the preposition chapter in my English Grammar book once again. That can do some help.
they'd mislead the students into studying a particular topic but give a different topic questions on the actual exam papers.
This thing has happened to us so many times. The teachers will say, this chapter is very important. Study this. And then they will not give even a single question from that chapter. Why do that? If it was an important chapter, then at least give a couple of questions from it. That can just help someone pass the test, isn't it?

This is something that I would dread doing. I think it would hurt me as much as it hurt my students because I don't like to think that someone would have to spend hours locked up in their room studying for the exam. When I was a student I never liked when exam season rolled around and just thinking back on it from the point of view of a teacher, I don't think that the professors really enjoy giving them either because it means that they have to take the time to grade them and such which takes away from their time.

Hi Nautilus,
You are MEAN.
I cannot imagine I had to take all those silly tests just because teachers like you wanted to make us feel sorry. I do not like that. It is so much better to announce on your first day that "Students, if you do not disturb me, I will not give you tests." The students would have been so quiet and calm.

I don't think that many people really like exams. I know I sure don't, and a lot of my friends and such aren't too fond of them either. However, despite the fact that I don't like them, I understand why teachers give students exams. It serves a good purpose, in my opinion.

Yes, I do. Giving exam is the only thing that can force me to study else I use to roam about or doing several other things. Education can only lead to a beautiful life which can be earned through studies only. How much we have learnt can be judged by exams and viva voce. But if the subjects are too tough and really not much interesting then, giving exam sometimes bother me else I like giving exams.

I have also scraped through my exams usually with good marks. I was a good student who attended all classes and still do (except for the occasional bunk). But I also do not like exams. It never tensed me or anything, but whenever a test came, it meant that my mother will become strict and not let me do the things I love doing. That is the main reason I hate exams.

I have never beeen one to like school in general this also went for school related events such as exams and standardized testing. No matter how many times I've heard the phrase; "Its only a test." I've wanted to slug the person who said it. My brain hates the mear idea of such things. Who needs to do those things anyway? What business is it of the school boards a standardized test isn't the way to prove anything, because some students aren't going to do well as others and that's never taken into account.

Well, I think tests are taken to point out exactly who is better than who. Now the question is - how can they judge it best? Written exams once or twice a year is hardly the way to do that. Most of them are so tensed and scared that they cannot give exams with their full potential and that certainly cannot judge their merits.

I don't like exams, to be honest i don't think they are the best way to anaylse what a student does and doesn't know due to them being under pressure, and some students are naturally sail through exam and others do not, in my personal opinion i think there should be a choice, i also think in many circumstances schools & Colleges etc are just interested in getting higher on the league tables and what is taught isn't a real taster of the subject, more how to pass the exam with lessons on exam technique, i think it would be a much better idea to have a student sit in an isolated area with a teacher for half hour and put across their views on the subject and answer the questions informally. nice topic

Thank you.
That is a nice view point. But I do not know whether it will practically help the students or not. But then again, unless one tries, how will they know.
We are taught so much in such a short time that the teachers cannot cope with the syllabus and fires away. We, on the other hand, cannot study the whole subject and end of with poor marks. This is not a good system of education.
