Men should not cry, it's shameful?

I've known some people mostly men, who believe that suppressing emotion is a sign of strength. They consider it as a shame showing emotion and crying in front of people. But I don't think it's right and good suppressing ones emotion, even for men. What do you think? What do you feel when you see a man crying in front of people? Do you think it's a sign of weakness?

Hi care! I completely agree with you and I feel that there is no reason that a man should not cry in public. It does not help to suppress one's feelings and not to cry in public. If there is an occasion, I cannot hold my tears be it a some sad occasion, a passionate movie of too much of happiness. I do not feel hesitant if tears are rolling down my cheeks and don't bother much what others are going to think about me. Shedding few tears does wonders and it is very therapeutic, I have experienced.

Well it's good that it doesn't bother you showing your inner feelings and weakness in front of public. Actually, it doesn't make the person less, it does only show that he is human. He has a heart not made of stone. I adore men who are not afraid of shedding their tears. And yeah, crying is therapeutic. It helps us release our emotional pain that's why after a good cry we felt good. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

I agree with you that it does not make a person less, if he cries in public, after all he also has a heart and emotions.

Crying is not bad at all. This is not a weakness, it is just a way of expressing your feeling. I don't know why some people think that if man cries, he's weak. That is a thinking of an immature person.

Yeah, I don't even know when that notion all started. Crying is indeed not bad, it's good for all of us. We need it, it's part of our nature. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Is it a weakness that a man cries? Is it a weakness that a woman cries? Even though this topic is about a man crying I am going to look at both male and female. In my opinion. Crying is an emotion. I see it as a sensitive emotion. For any one to cry, it shows that they are being sensitive. It is even more special for a man to cry if he is sad.

Yeah, crying shows sensitivity in ones feelings and emotions. As a human we need to cry, because we have a heart. But people make it complicated as putting a name, or a brand on crying as a show of ones weakness. Which is not good for our self and for our health. I admire men who can show their emotions because they are also weak inside. It is not shameful to men if they are crying in the public. For me I like men who show their emotions and feelings.

I once saw my guy friend cry over a pickle head girl that wasnt worth the time of the day to cry over. It really surprised me because i never saw that side of him. It didnt mean he was weak, it just shows that men can be emotional too. Why cant they cry arent they human? Who said that men should keep their feeling inside. Jesus cried and he is a man. I think it shows that a man is being true to his feelings at that moment. I love it. Any man that needs to cry and vent let it rip. You know they say thats why women live longer because we rid our body from waste in our tears when we cry.:)

Yeah, you're right, women live longer because they didn't bottle up their feelings compared to men. We all need to cry, because we all undergo hardship and problem in life. And crying is the best way to release our negative emotions. Men should learn to cry wherever they maybe. Men who knows how to cry are more compassionate and understanding to others. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

careguarden hi, i didnt see it that way...it only shows that they have still emotions like women in which is a good thing. for me the sign of weakness in man will be seen on not confronting their responsibilities on the things that they did. crying helped relieve tensions and pressure enveloping ur emotions...either u are a man or a woman it means u are avoiding sickness in a way. huggs to u~~bea~~

Hello Bea, you're right crying makes us feel good inside and outside. It's good for our health. And yeah, mens' weakness should not be measured on their inability to control their emotions as they opt to cry, but rather on their inability to face their responsibilities. Most men runaway their responsibilities, especially on having a child. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Knowing what I know now having been in a long relationship, I'll never do that sort of thing again and I hope no one ever sees me cry. Anywhoo, if i did see another man cry i might think that it took a hell of a lot of hardship to make him cry. If anything i'd feel... Jeez i wouldn't know what to feel, maybe feel sorry for him.its not weakness just extremely human.

Yeah, crying is not a guy thing. For some it must be real hard that's why they cry, while other guys seem used on crying. I have few brothers, but I never seen them crying ever since. Because they still believe and considered it as weakness when they cry. As the song" boys don't cry." Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

It's been proven that it is unhealthy to hold emotions in. They bottle up and then they explode eventually. I think that society in the past has put a lot of pressure on men to hold in emotions and not to cry. What that created was a bunch of men who can't express their feelings and are often pretty hard to understand and to live with. I've seen men cry and it is nothing to be ashamed of at all. It shows they are human.

It is an unwritten law that men should not cry. And if any man is crying then he is not a man. Meaning that he is not prepared to face the world boldly. But as you said, I agree with you that, emotion is a sign of strength. On the other hand, I also have seen such people who think that it's weakness to show off your emotions. Such men have crying as the farthest of the actions. Or to say perfectly, they will show any other emotion other than tears. These people think it shameful to cry like women. But I think, even men are humans and an outlet is very very important for emotions. I fail to understand why these such men want not to cry. Crying is also a emotion that is considered the strongest. One is asked to cry on some occasions to relieve them of their emotions. So, I think, it is not stupidity for men to cry.

it is not that men should not cry and women cry more, that depends upon the person whether he is strong or not,if he is able to control the emotions or not .If the person is able to control the emotions then he may not cry, similarly in the case of women too.

Crying for me is a sign of strength especially when men cries. Because they didn't hold there feelings and they had the courage to spiel it out. I hate people who said that when a men cries, it means that they are coward.

suppressing emotions by not crying is a choice though. although men not necessarily cry in public but if the felt like crying inside their room is okay. crying is not a weak of weakness on men, it is a sign that one acknowledges his feelings, of being hurt, of crying because his is undergoing some painful experiences or event in his life. to me there is nothing wrong with that. on the other hand, men who pretend not to cry is a sign og arrogance, rejecting even in his own life, denying his own emotions just to show that he is strong. that is not acceptable to me. better cry if you must. there's nothing wrong with that. just don't cry in public places just to show your emotions either.

George would be one of those men raised to believe that crying period means that he is week. He's supressed his emotions for so long that its effected him in a negitive way, and I am the one who has to live with him and deal with. I see men cry, mostly on television in reality shows, and I think its a sign of strength not weekness. It takes real strength to express emotion especially on television recorded or othrwise.

Yeah, in reality shows we often saw men crying with all their heart. And I agree with you, it's a sign of strength, it takes courage to show your feelings and your weakness. It's sign of humility. As the adage goes "The greatest fear of human is to appear to be weak." Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

We are all human beings with feelings no matter if you're a male or female. I think being able to show your emotions is strength in itself. Being an emotionally closed book just shows you're scared to let you true self out. I don't think it makes a guy any weaker if he shows emotion, if anything it makes him stronger. It isn't the dark ages anymore, and just like women have gained rights to many things men should gain the right to express sadness and not be shamed for it.
