Okay, someone copied my discussion here in myLot!!! It's on another website though and the "copier" is not from myLot...Or I'm not quite so sure about that! Here's what happened:
I was browsing through the internet for reviews about atsiam.com. I've actually posted a separated discussion here in myLot a few days ago asking the Lotters if someone has booked with atsiam.com to see if their service is good or not. So anyway, as I mentioned I was browsing just a moment ago if there are other sites that have reviews about atsiam.com. I googled "atsiam.com booking good". Naturally, I saw my myLot post being populated by google search results. What I didn't expect is that populated in the list before mine was my exactly the same post but on a different website! I clicked on the site and saw my myLot discussion being posted by another person on another website every single word of it without even trying to paraphrase it or something! I don't know but I felt like I was being robbed or something! What I hate though is that I don't know if I should feel that way. I mean, am I just overreacting? After all, it's my own composition, right? Though I wouldn't really call it a "composition" technically and all but still...
Here's the website by the way in case you'd wanna look it up (note: not a referral link): http://my.chinese.cn/en/space-364-do-thread-id-1001.html

If you are just over reacting how does that solve the problem of plagarism? I wouldn't say that you are over reacting at all. I hope you let the site and the person know what was going on. It needs to be resolved. And the site needs to know this is going on. Competition doesn't even come into it! Competition is when two people are competing not two people using the same thing!

You can't let them get too cockey or they will take over and be able to do big deals on the internet.

You are absolutely right celticeagle! Simple things like these should not be tolerated as these could lead to a much worse version if not stopped. Who knows, this could lead to big time plagiarism in the future. And this doesn't only affect me but myLot as well! Thank you for believing on how I reacted! I did let the site know about the situation thru email. I guess I'd just have to wait in a few days maybe if they'd do something about it.

Oh! That's bad. Isn't there any way to take some action against that person? Maybe mylot staffs can help you. I don;t know what I'm talking about but maybe they will. It's not easy to start a discussion. And it's embarrassing to find someone has copied it! Grrr!

well the best thing that you can do is contact the admin. you can't really practically protect your post since anyone can just copy paste it. it should have been better if one will state it's source and not really own it completely.

Plagiarism verbatim, huh! That is a practice even in the academe. If one doesn't get caught, he gets away with it. Bad taste in the mouth but that is the way of the world. Don't write super stuff here. Refrain from analytical criticism. Still I wish you should have been paid.

Thanks Ping! I don't know about how good my discussion is though coz it doesn't even have any responses yet since I posted it! It really made me wonder on why that particualr discussion is the one that he copied. I guess he's just curious about what the answers to my discussion are or something...

He may not have stolen my person technically but still, it's my work, I believe anyone has every right to get upset when someone steals their work. Yes it is common but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's right. If we allow even this simple thing to just go on, the next thing that could happen could be worse. Take for example a child stealing a single penny from his mother's purse or something. If that child doesn't get reprimanded, he may grow old to become a theif, stealing not only a single penny but much more. So you see my friend, even if what he did is just small, this should not be taken that lightly because who knows what might this small act of stealing a discussion may lead to that person in the future.

if that happened here in mylot, i think it is not that difficult to run after that person. we can always report this to the admin if we find irregularities and abuses like this. we can do something. but with your situation, i guess you can also do that with the site's admin by contacting them. only, we never know what will be their reaction to that. well, try it.

It's really annoying, but it's also funny. I don't understand why the person want to copy or steal your discussion.
I have not found the meaning or the value to steal a discussion. anyway i think if you have time you should tell the relative sites about it.
I would not bother it because i have limited time but I definitely support you.
some people are really need to get lessons for the cheating.

Thanks so much blossom! I'm really glad I have a friend's support :) I tried reporting it to the relative site but unfortunately, you need to be a member of their website in order to report a specific discussion. I tried emailing their admin though...I also tried informing the myLot staff. I guess we'll just have see how it will go in the next few days...

So a person named deny copied your post? This person should be reported. I think you are not overreacting at all. I suggest you contact the admin of that site and inform the mylot admin too.

This is really sad. I had the same experience before as well, although on a different site. I am just saddened that others would be willing to steal and cheat just to earn a few cents in return.
