I just heard on SportsCenter that the Boston Red Sox are in talks with the Texas Rangers to trade third basemen Mike Lowell. This news makes me very sad and makes me not want to watch much baseball in 2010, I'm a huge Mike fan and I think he's a productive player, sure he had hip surgery but if you had hip surgery would you be 110%? I think not. I hate it when the Red Sox trade players who have always stayed true to the team and gave it their all. I will still be a Lowell fan if he goes to Texas, I know their a division rival of the Red Sox but I can't stop following my favorite MLB player, no matter what team he plays for. I'm usually not one to say if he were to go to the Yankees I'd still follow but I would, which is a surprise since I can't stand the New York Yankees but Mike started out with them as a Rookie.
Are there any other Mike Lowell fans out there who are upset by this news or are most of you happy? I don't think the Sox can blame their 2009 season on Lowell, the whole team didn't do that great to be honest and it's not just one players fault. I will definitely be pissed off if the Red Sox get Johnny Damon back, he went to the Yankees after he said he would never play for them and now that he's a free agent he needs to either retire or go to another team. Damon already lost all my respect as a player the minute he turned on his word and went to play for them.
I understand a lot of baseball players and sports athletes go where the money is but you have to stay true to your word to a certain extent. I know I won't be watching much baseball in 2010 if this Red Sox/Rangers deal goes through with Lowell, I'm just really upset and I know my mom is as well since she is also a huge Mike Lowell fan.
I'd love to hear everyone's opinion, but please don't bash Mike, he's a great guy and a decent player and let's all remember the great 2007 season he had with the Red Sox, he did win the MVP and he also won a World Series with the Marlins when he played for that club.

I'm a sox fan and I think it would be a fine trade. Sure Mike is productive, and he's got a great legacy in Boston and everyone loves him, but he really is over the hill. I'm sure we could get a much better player for much cheaper, and one that won't spend as much time on the DL lol. Cheers!

I understand where your coming from but I will miss him, he might be older but he's productive and the fans love him. He's not that much over the hill as far as sports are concerned, look at Brett Favre...yes, I know he plays football but still, all sports are demanding physically and mentally and look at Tim Wakefield he's in his 40's, Mike is only I believe 35, 36 at the most!
I'll still follow him where ever he goes, he's my favorite player of all time.
