We all know that there are no perfect employer and employee. I have to admit from the start I hate my company although I have the guts to stay there for 5 years. Its so hard to find jobs now that is why I stayed. Christmas is approaching of course everyone of us will have a party to attend to. We have Christmas party and I am thinking of attending it. I decided to attend, because I have thoughts that not all of the company today have a ready Christmas party for their employee, I was blessed that our company will have. As of situation of the Philippines now, not all are celebrating Christmas but our company decided to celebrate it. Do you know why I hate attending, about the awards. Every year there is an award given to those people who are deserving to received it. Just 2007 I witness that the award committee was not evaluating the tally board seriously. I became a part of the evaluating committee that is why I hate the award session. During the award , it is always the same person winning it and when someone won an award and not the same person as last year you will see the faces of some expecting themselves to win unhappy and somewhat protesting discreetly. In other words our award session is manipulated. Whenever the award session is happening I want to slap the faces of the undeserved one, I really read their devilish smile. Of course they are happy because they have additional cash. I am not even smiling or clapping for them.
On the other hand, i decided to be happy this year. i don't want to get affected by them. I feel blessed eventhough I had experience many problems. I am thankful that I am still alive I want to be happy I want to enjoy, because we don't know maybe it will be our last day of our lives. And I want to have a spirit of Christmas inside me. How about you? do you hate your company and do you attend your christmas party even if you hate it?

I was in a similar predicament last year.
I worked for the public school system in Los Angeles which overall, has been operating in the red for the past few years. In my last department the year before(which was also a different agency), there was a small, informal get together but as everyone predicted job loss and lots of stress so there was much to celebrate or make a big deal out of so it was ok.
Back to last year. Plans fluctuated from eating at some restaurant that we would have to pay for (about $20 each) to a pizza thing (which would have made the most sense since people were crying broke and fearing job loss). We ended up having a pot luck, which is having to buy and move enough food for at least 10 people. I think I brought five pounds of bulk store potato salad because it was cheap and I hated most of my co-workers.
Like you, I hated having to sit through an awards ceremony because there wasn't much to celebrate as it was pretty certain that most everyone in the room was at risk for job loss. This and the budget were mentioned often so it was like going to a party and all the guests can talk about are people who are having serious problems.
Being that I was on the last leg of probation, I went to the party, was forced to sit with people I hated and just bit my tongue. It worked out in the long run.

No. Even though I passed probation, one of my bosses' butted heads and my position was eliminated. Compatible transfers were not available and I felt. Some days I wish I'd stood my ground on not participating since most everyone in my department were so evil)but right now I'm enjoying my own party.

ow? me? never? i will not attend to a party that i will not enjoy. it is very uncomfortable to mingle and chit-chat with people you don't like.
regarding about the award, keep it cool. you know how hard to earn now. so the additional cash will be helpful to the winners.

but the winners do not deserve the awards. Why it is always administration win the awards anyway? that is the question that popping in our mind. Office admin is always in favor with our boss, that is why they always win. And those that are more deserve poor production people are just waiting in vain. Anyway thanks for the response.

I would not attend anywhere that I feel uncomfortable or uneasy. If I had fun at the party, despite the people, of course I would go because I will not let anyone get to me, or else I would NEVER be happy. But if there was no point in going, I would not go. I will be attending my christmas party this year, as well as at my mothers church because I enjoy it. If I had problems with anyone at my job, I would still go, because I can have fun despite haters.

I like the answer. It is simple but substantial. I also have that kind of thinking. It is still a blessing to have a party. Thanks for the response.

Well, the company where I worked didn't do Christmas parties for the employees. They didn't want to do anything for us... so we, the workers would do a party by ourselves instead!
I must admit that even if at first I felt lazy to attend in the end I always had lots of fun.
If it had been a party organized by the company and I hadn't felt confortable by going, I wouldn't have gone. It's not mandatory after all.

I have worked at my current job for 3 years now, and have not gone to one single party. In fact there is an invitation out for this coming Christmas party and I have no desire to go. I have no respect for the owner of the company, and no respect for his feable attempt at getting people into the holiday cheer after treating us employees like disposable items the rest of the year.
I don't feel guilty about it, and no one misses me at the get-together, they're all in the same boat.

What? your employer treated you as a disposable item, that is bad! severely! I can't believe. I hope you can find a job whom the boss are really concern for their employee, or else have your own business. Thanks for the response.

christmas parties happen only once a year. we can never really avoid experiences such as yours in a certain company but imagine this, what if you were so annoyed with some of your colleagues the whole year and this is the only time of the year that you'll enjoy for yourself? will you be depriving yourself for happinessanyway, its christmas time and time for giving love. happy mylotting and merry christmas

I agree, as like my response on above, no one will stop you from having fun. And I will still be waiting for the raffle prizes though.

I dunno if i'm responding to this because of the topic or because of your peculiar smile in your photo..ha ha..well, i am attending our company's christmas party even though there are people there whom i do not consider as friendly and worthy of my attention. This is because I believe that if I don't go to the party it will be more of my loss as there are lots of goodies and giveaways and raffle prizes. I just join my friends and not think about the not so pleasant people present in the party. I'm sure I'll survive and still be happy at the end of the day.
You really can't avoid having politics even in the office...no matter how big or small your company is. The trick is not to get yourself so much involved with it.
Hope you'll enjoy the party!!

I would still attend to be with the spirit of Christmas need to rejoice and take away those bad thinking which could only makes your life miserable if one have to focus on it ruining any of your day. I myself attend any Christmas parties to enjoy the festive seasons and never let those uncanny and arrogant people get on my way as their are more nicer people around which out weight those nasty people. For the spirit of camaraderie it is good to enjoy the parties and prepare to enchants those around you with lot of positivity as more blessing would comes to those who know they are in good sides.

Even if I am unhappy with previous company, yes I still went to the christmas party. To me it was something you just want to go for the sake of it. And besides that is the only time I get to wear a dress so I go anyways. I was so unhappy with that company but of course there will always be something that will tick you off with companies or co-workers.

christmas is a festival of joy. Every people have right enjoy freely nad joy fully.
and i think your thought is little bit negative, so that's why you hate the award which will be gvn to the x-peerson for their acievement.
just change your thoughts and think from different side that you can also been able to get award , if work hard nad gvn 100% ,you must get the awards.
yaa sometimes politics play a major role in each and every schenario, but not yet every time this happen.

Because those had given the awards do not deserve it. Actually in our every award there is a question mark left on the forehead of the audience.
