Starting a new discussion or commenting on an existing post

I recently joined myLot and I've been spending some time reading through the guidelines and the discussions being posted. What I'd like to know, is, before starting a discussion, do I have to search past discussions first, as it's stated in the faq's to do this. Also, if there is already a discussion started, does it matter how long ago it was posted if I were to comment. In some random searches I did, some topics were 3 years old. It also seems that similiar discussions are just worded differently as seperate discussions, so is it better to start a new discussion, or just comment on existing ones?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I know that you have gotten several responses on this discussion. I also have noticed that you have gotten some real good advice on what you should do. I would like to add somthing that I don't think has been said, then again I could be wrong..That is very normal for me to be wrong..LOL
I would suggest that you always respond back to your started discussions. It only will add to your earning but is very respectful. As for myself I always do a search on things I think that might have been started in the past. To me the past would be within the last year. Then for those that are a year older I would reword the title and use my own words as well.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I know it's only been a couple days for me now, but I'm finding I am checking back to check responses and trying to respond back where I can.
Is there an easier way to find out when someone new adds to your comment? I only have two started discussions right now, so it's easy for me to check them. What about when you have 200? Is there anything that tells you that you have a new comment from a past post? Thanks.

I get email notifactions stating that I have a response. You should be getting them now on your discussions. Keep tabs on your email. I wish the best and continue to post to discussions.

I myself seldom starting a new discussion unless i really have something to sharing here. Usually i will share about important things or about urgent thing. But once again, it's seldom. I love to commenting on others' discussions and also commenting back to other's comments on my own discussions. I think such thing is really interesting because it's just like we are chatting with other people and we can sharing our thought with people who perhaps have same interest or problem with us. Starting a new discussion, commenting on others' discussions, or replying other's comment on our discussion however is some way to earn more on here. We are not talking about the earning because our activities here are counted as worth value. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hello deannad141 this is checkmail and welcome to mylot and would like to share some knowledge with you.Yeah in mylot its really tough as well as easy to start an discussion.Well you don't have to check for the topic of discussion but get an self one(fresh).Even if its similar to the previous discussions its allowed over here.There may be 1000 of members thinking alike so doesn't means they can't express it over here.
In respondign to the dicsussons, you can respond to n umber of discussions, but in an quality content and must have some knowledge about it.The discussion creator must be interested in your response, you will get an best response for it.more earnings.
Overall over here at mylot you just need to stick with the quality and knowledge of discussion and responses, it will help you to earn more friends and money.

It is always okay to respond to an old discussion, even if it was made years ago. I do this all the time, and I'm sure a lot of people do that, too 
You don't have to look at the existing discussions before posting one, but it is advised so you won't accidentally repeat a discussion.
It's up to you whether to make responses or to start new discussions, but if you can make your discussion unique and different enough then it would not seem like the same topic. You'll still have to make a lot of responses, though
